Northeastern University는 US News & World Report 2021랭킹의 Best National Universities 부문에서 49위를 차지한 사립대학으로 1898년에 설립되었습니다. 대학 캠퍼스는 많은 명문대학이 위치하고 있는 미국 매사추세츠주의 보스턴에 자리잡고 있습니다.
노스이스턴 대학은 학생들이 대학 학위수여증을 받기 전에 상당한 직장 경험을 얻을 수 있는데, 학부생의 90% 이상이 자신의 대학 생활 중에 최소한 한 개의 전문적인 코업을 완수한다고 합니다. ESPN과 MTV를 포함한 전세계 2000여개 이상의 기업 중의 하나에서 일을 하면서 실무 경험을 갖고 졸업을 하는 노스이스턴 대학의 학생이 되려면 어떤 준비가 필요한지 알아보겠습니다.
신입생으로 지원하기 위해서는 Common Application이나 Coalition Application 중 하나를 선택해서 온라인 원서를 작성해야 합니다. 그리고, 다음의 일정 중 선택해서 원서 및 서류를 마감 기한 전에 제출해야 합니다.

Northeastern University SAT/ACT – Optional
이미 많은 미국대학이 미국대학입학시험 성적 제출을 면제해주고 있습니다. 그래서, SAT/ACT 성적 제출은 학생이 하고 싶으면 제출하면 되고, 성적이 없다면, 제출하지 않아도 됩니다. 노스이스턴 대학도 2021년 입학에서 이 성적 제출을 Optional로 하고 있습니다.
- Under the new policy, whether graduating from a U.S. institution or an international institution, you will be able to choose whether to submit standardized testing or not. If you do not submit standardized testing, you will not be penalized or disadvantaged. All applicants will be fully considered for admission to Northeastern, including the University Honors Program, and for any merit scholarships.
- If you choose to submit standardized testing, you should submit results from the test, or tests, which best capture your academic preparation and abilities in the classroom. While there is no advantage in submitting results from more than one test, all results provided will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee and factored into your admissions decision
노스이스턴 지원 시 성적을 제출하기로 결정했다면, SAT, ACT, IB, AP, SAT Subject, GCE Advanced Levels 등 여러 시험을 인정하고 있으니 참고하시기 바랍니다.
영어가 모국어가 아닌 외국 지원자의 경우 공인영어 성적을 제출하게 되는데요. TOEFL IELTS, PTE, Duolingo English Test 이외에도 TOEFL iBT Special Home Edition이나 IELTS Indicator 시험 결과도 수령한다고 합니다.

노스이스턴은 Common Application을 통해 지원하는 경우 Personal Essay 작성을 해야 하며, 아래 Option 중 하나를 선택해서 작성하는 에세이가 전부입니다.
The essay demonstrates your ability to write clearly and concisely on a selected topic and helps you distinguish yourself in your own voice. What do you want the readers of your application to know about you apart from courses, grades, and test scores? Choose the option that best helps you answer that question and write an essay of no more than 650 words, using the prompt to inspire and structure your response. Remember: 650 words is your limit, not your goal. Use the full range if you need it, but don't feel obligated to do so.
1. Some students have a background, identity, interest, or talent that is so meaningful they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story.
2. The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later success. Recount a time when you faced a challenge, setback, or failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience?
3. Reflect on a time when you questioned or challenged a belief or idea. What prompted your thinking? What was the outcome?
4. Describe a problem you've solved or a problem you'd like to solve. It can be an intellectual challenge, a research query, an ethical dilemma-anything that is of personal importance, no matter the scale. Explain its significance to you and what steps you took or could be taken to identify a solution.
5. Discuss an accomplishment, event, or realization that sparked a period of personal growth and a new understanding of yourself or others.
6. Describe a topic, idea, or concept you find so engaging that it makes you lose all track of time. Why does it captivate you? What or who do you turn to when you want to learn more?
7. Share an essay on any topic of your choice. It can be one you've already written, one that responds to a different prompt, or one of your own design.
Coalition Application을 선택했다면, 그 플랫폼에서 요구하는 다음의 에세이 주제 중 하나를 택하여 에세이 작성을 미리부터 시작할 수 있습니다.
1. Tell a story from your life, describing an experience that either demonstrates your character or helped to shape it.
2. Describe a time when you made a meaningful contribution to others in which the greater good was your focus. Discuss the challenges and rewards of making your contribution.
3. Has there been a time when you’ve had a long-cherished or accepted belief challenged? How did you respond? How did the challenge affect your beliefs?
4. What is the hardest part of being a student now? What’s the best part? What advice would you give a younger sibling or friend (assuming they would listen to you)?
5. Submit an essay on a topic of your choice.
