Brandeis University는 미국 매사추세츠주의 Waltham이라는 보스턴 외곽지역에 위치한 사립의 연구대학으로 유대교의 후원으로 1948년에 설립된 대학입니다.

 

 

 

브랜다이스 대학교는 43개의 전공 및 46개의 부전공 프로그램을 제공하며, 학부 수업의 3분의 2정도가 학생수 20명 이내로 소규모 학급으로 운영되고 있습니다. 이 학교는 학생수가 6천명 정도로 아주 작은 대학이지만, AAU의 회원교로 보스턴 콘소시엄에 속해 있습니다. 그래서, 이곳의 학생들은 보스턴칼리지, 보스턴대학과 터프츠대학을 포함한 기타 대학의 수업에 등록하고 참여할 수 있습니다. 이 대학의 입학율은 30%로 경쟁력에 있어 Most selective로 분류되며, US News & World Report 2020 랭킹의 Best National Universities에서 42위를 차지하였습니다.

 

 

 

리버럴아츠 과목이 강세를 띠는 이 대학의 학부 과정에 입학 신청하기 전에 지원자가 알아야 하는 몇 가지 사항에 대해서 살펴보겠습니다.

 

 

 

브랜다이스 대학에 지원하기 위해서는 Common Application을 통해 온라인 입학 신청서를 작성해야 합니다. 신입생으로 지원하기 위해 준비해야 하는 서류의 아래 체크리스트를 참고해서 신청 준비를 하세요.

 

 

 

-           Completed Common Application

-           Official copies of all high school transcripts and/or GED certificate. Transcripts must include official grades from all years of secondary school to complete this required component.

-           Applicants have three options to fulfill our testing requirement. Review our Test-Optional Policy for more details.

s   Submit SAT or ACT.

s   Submit three subject-based exams from the approved list. 

s   Submit a graded analytical paper that you have written for a class in 11th or 12th grade. 

-           Official transcript(s) of any course(s) taken at the post-secondary school level

-           Mid-year report from the final year which includes grades for all classes. For Early Decision I students, first quarter or first trimester grades will fulfill this requirement.

-           A letter of recommendation from a teacher who has instructed you in a core academic course

-           A School Report and a letter of recommendation from a secondary school official

-           $80 Application Fee

-           If you are applying as an Early Decision I or Early Decision II applicant, a completed Early Decision Agreement Form

 

 

 

복잡해 보이지만, 온라인 지원서, 고등학교 성적, SAT/ACT 성적(Optional), Mid-year 리포트, 추천서, 입시상담선생님의 리포트, 입학지원서, 그리고, Early Decision에 지원하는 학생이라면, 동의서 양식을 함께 제출해야 한다는 내용입니다.

그리고, 모국어가 영어가 아닌 한국 학생의 경우 공인영어성적, 재정보증서, 그리고, 수능성적이 추가로 준비되어야 합니다.

 

 

 

브랜다이스 대학도 2021년 가을학기에 입학하는 학생들을 위한 시험 성적 제출에 관한 새로운 정책을 내놓았는데요. Test-optional로 SAT나 ACT 성적을 제출할 필요가 없습니다.

 

 

 

Brandeis has a test-optional policy and no longer requires applicants to submit SAT or ACT scores. This policy allows applicants to decide for themselves whether their test results accurately reflect their academic ability and potential and is consistent with recommendations from the National Association for College Admissions Counseling. Starting for applicants for the Fall 2021 semester, all applicants will be able to apply under our test-optional policy, regardless of citizenship.

 

 

 

그리고, 다음의 세 가지 옵션 중에 하나를 선택해서 시험 성적을 제출해야 합니다. 다른 학교의 Test-optional 정책과는 많이 다른데요. 아래 옵션 세 개 중 하나를 따라야 하기에 본인의 상황에 가장 잘 맞는 옵션으로 선택해야 합니다.

 

 

 

Option 1: Submit SAT or ACT. The writing portion of the SAT is not required. We will superscore each exam if more than one set of results is submitted.

Option 2: Submit three exams from the approved list. One exam must be from a Science or Math discipline, one exam must be from an English or Social Science discipline, and the third exam may be from a discipline of the student’s choice.

Option 3: Submit a graded analytical paper through the Common Application, including:

-          One additional recommendation written by an academic teacher from an 11th or 12th grade course.

-          One graded analytical writing sample 

 

 

 

옵션 2의 경우, 승인 리스트에 있는 시험 중 세 개의 성적을 제출해야 하는데요. 하나의 시험은 반드시 과학이나 수학 분야에서, 하나의 시험은 영어 혹은 사회과학 분야에서, 그리고, 나머지는 학생이 원하는 과목 중에서 선택할 수 있습니다.

SAT, AP, IB, A레벨 등 다양한 시험을 통해 평가를 받을 수 있지만, 한국의 평범한 고등학교를 졸업했다면, 옵션 2를 선택하는 것보다 SAT 시험을 보는 것이 더 나을 수도 있어 보입니다.

 

 

 

Brandeis 대학에 지원하는 학생은 자신이 선택한 애플리케이션 플랫폼에서 요구하는 에세이 이외에도 Supplemental 에세이를 작성해야 하는데, 대학이 제시하는 세 개의 옵션 중 하나를 선택해서 작성해야 합니다. 그리고, 국제 학생 지원자가 작성해야 하는 에세이도 별도로 있습니다. 

 

 

 

Option 1: Why would you like to attend Brandeis? (250 words) 

 

Option 2: Justice Brandeis said, “Most of the things worth doing in the world had been declared impossible before they were done.” Tell us how you would implement change in society that others might think impossible. (250 words) 

 

Option 3: There are approximately 171,476 words in the English dictionary. Pick your favorite word and tell us why you picked it. (250 words)
