2019년 US대학 랭킹에서 공동 63위를 차지한 University of Maryland at College Park는 Washington DC와 Baltimore의 중간에 위치하여 대도시로의 경험을 공유할 수 있으면서 한적한 교외생활을 누릴 수 있는 곳입니다. DC의 메트로 환승 시스템에 자체 지하철 정류장이 있는 컬리지 파크는 매릴랜드대학 대표 캠퍼스로 미국의 수도인 워싱턴 DC에서 가까운 거리에 위치합니다.

1865년에 설립된 University of Maryland는 연구 중심대학으로 매릴랜드주에 칼리지 파크, 볼티모어, 쉐디 그로브와 워싱턴 DC에 캠퍼스가 위치합니다. UMD 혹은 간단하게 Maryland라고 불리는 이 대학은 University of Maryland 시스템의 대표 대학으로 41000명의 학생수는 주에서 가장 큰 대학이자 워싱턴 도시 지역에서 가장 큰 대학으로 유명합니다.

 

전체 학부생 수는 29,868명으로 캠퍼스에 800개 이상의 클럽과 학생단체가 활동하고 있으며, 거의 60개 이상의 남녀학생 전용 클럽이 운영되고 있습니다. 신입생과 모든 학생들이 캠퍼스에 거주할 필요는 없습니다.

고등학교를 넘어 대학 수준의 학점이 12학점/학기, 18학점/쿼터 이하가 되는 학생의 경우, UMD의 학부과정의 신입학 지원을 해야 합니다. 대학 입학의 우선적인 고려와 학점 기반 장학금, 특별 프로그램 초청을 위한 이점을 위해서는 Early Action 마감일 전에 지원하는 것이 유리합니다. 가을학기 입학 신청의 신입생 지원자는 자동적으로 봄학기 입학도 고려됩니다.

입학 신청을 위한 기본적인 자격 조건으로서 학업적인 부분에서 고등학교 입학 전까지 학생들이 이수해야 하는 과목은 아래와 같습니다.

-        Four years of English

-        Four years of math, including Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II. Students who complete Algebra II prior to their final year must complete the four-year mathematics requirement by taking a course or courses that utilize non-trivial algebra. Examples of courses meeting this requirement include Algebra II, Trigonometry, Precalculus, Calculus and successor courses, Statistics, and College Algebra.

-        Three years of history or social science

-        Three years of science in at least two different areas, with at least two lab experiences

-        Two years of foreign language
