오늘은 반달곰원장이 미국 카네기멜론대학교 Carnegie Mellon University Tepper School of Business에 대해서 말씀드리겠습니다. 우라나라 직장인들에게 인기가 많은 Tepper 비즈니스스쿨에는 MBA프로그램외에 다양한 비즈니스석사과정이 있는데 아래와 같습니다.

라운드1의 마감일은 10월 6일, 라운드 2의 마감일은 12월 19일입니다. 그리고 마지막 라운드3의 마감일은 3월 2일입니다. 보통 라운드의 마감일이 1월 초인데 Tepper MBA는 특이하게도 12월 중순에 마감을 합니다. 그럼 그 일정에 맞추어서 준비해야할 application documents를 알아보겠습니다.
Application Checklist
The following application components are required:

✓ Unofficial transcripts of all academic work
✓ Official GMAT score (preferred) or GRE (accepted)
✓ Official TOEFL or IELTS score (if applicable)
✓ $200 application fee
Once admitted, candidates will be required to submit official transcripts.
그럼 주요 지원조건에 대해서 살펴보겠습니다. 가장 중요한 에세이의 질문을 살펴보겠는데 필수 에세이가 3개이고 옵션 에세이가 하나입니다. 질문은 아래와 같습니다.
Option #1: Carnegie Mellon University is an institution that never stops looking and moving ahead, pioneering the next way forward with technology, business, and research to answer questions big and small. Personally or professionally, in what way have you been a pioneer?
Option #2: Amidst the ambiguous and unchartered nature of change, Carnegie Mellon University students and alumni rise above to envision and create. Discuss how you have anticipated change in your professional life. In what ways did you effectively collaborate to create your desired outcome?
Option #3: At Carnegie Mellon University, our difference is what we imagine for the world and how we answer its challenges. What impact have you had on the world around you?
Optional Essay
There also is an optional essay for additional information about your candidacy that you may wish to share with the admissions committee.
그리고 추천서는 1부를 원하는데 직속상사나 직장관련한 분에게서 받으면 됩니다. 그런데 재미있는 것은 Tepper MBA가 추천서양식으로 GMAC의 Common letter of recommendation(LOR)을 참고하기를 추천하고 있다는 것입니다. 그래서 과연 LOR에는 어떤 내용이 있는지 참고하시길 바라면서 그 내용을 전달합니다.
The Common LOR form has three sections:
Section 1: Personal Information About the Recommender
Section 2: Leadership Assessment Grid
The grid is comprised of 16 competencies and character traits that contribute to successful leadership. The competencies and character traits are grouped into five categories:
Achievement
Influence
People
Personal Qualities
Cognitive Abilities
Section 3: Recommendation Questions
Please provide a brief description of your interaction with the applicant and, if applicable, the applicant’s role in your organization. (Recommended word count: 50 words)
How does the performance of the applicant compare to that of other well-qualified individuals in similar roles? (e.g., what are the applicant’s principal strengths?) (Recommended word count: 500 words)
Describe the most important piece of constructive feedback you have given the applicant. Please detail the circumstances and the applicant’s response. (Recommended word count: 500 words)
Is there anything else we should know? (Optional)
이런 유형으로 추천서를 작성하면 어느 학교의 추천서요구에도 쉽게 대처할 수가 있습니다. 그럼 Tepper MBA학생의 class profile을 보면서 어떤 학생들이 어떤 수준의 조건들을 가지고 있는지 알아보겠습니다.
Tepper MBA학생수는 236명입니다. 국제학생의 비율은 34%이고, 여학생의 비율은 28%로 상당히 낮은 편입니다. 여학생들이 Tepper MBA를 별로 좋아하지 않는 것 같습니다. 학생의 평균 GPA 는 3.4입니다. 80%의 학생의 GPA는 2.9-3.8사이입니다. 평균 GMAT점수는 690점입니다. 80%의 학생은 640-742점수사이에 포진해 있습니다. 직장경력은 평균 5.6년도이고 80%의 학생은 3.0-9.0년의 경력을 가지고 있습니다. 그리고 경력이 1년이내인 경우도 1%로 직장경력이 없어도 입학이 가능한 것을 알 수가 있습니다.
