안녕하세요, 반달곰원장입니다.
오늘은 스탠포드대학교의 한국학프로그램이 있는데 Center for Asian Studies CEAS에서 제공하는 다양한 프로그램을 소개해드리겠습니다. 우리나라 분들이 갈 수만 있다면 스탠포드대학교의 방문학자과정으로 가고 싶어하는데 솔직히 쉽게 갈 수 있는 곳이 아닙니다. 그럼 어떻게 갈 수 있을지는 나중에 알아보고 CEAS가 제공 하는 이벤트들에 대한 소식부터 먼저 말씀드리겠습니다.
스탠포드 CEAS가 설립된지 50년이 되었는데 그를 기념하기 위한 여러가지 행사들이 진행이 됩니다. 바로 이런 행사에 방문학자 분들이 참석하기를 학교에서는 요구하고 있고 실제적으로 연구하는 분들이라면 참석하는 것이 매우 유익하고 좋습니다. 서양인들은 동양을 어떻게 보고 있는지, 동양인 학자의 눈에는 서양을 어떻게 보고 있는지 다양한 시선들을 느낄 수 있으니까요.

그럼 이런 프로그램에 방문학자로 가기위해서는 무엇이 필요한지 알아보겠습니다. 기본적인 자격조건을 살펴보면 아래와 같습니다.
Program Requirements
To become a Visiting Scholar at CEAS, applicants must:
Hold a PhD degree
Currently have an academic appointment at another institution of higher learning
Have a confirmed Stanford faculty sponsor
Show proof of financial support equal to a minimum of $2,500 per month for the entire length of their visit (for international scholars)
Pay the CEAS Visiting Scholar Fee ($1,500 for stays of 90+ days, and $500 for stays of <90 days)
위에서 보시면 박사학위가 있으셔야 합니다. 이것은 반드시 충족해야 하는 부분이므로 우리나라의 공무원분들이 연수가는 경우에는 적용되기가 어려울 것 같습니다. 그리고 교수나 교육기관에서 직업을 가지고 있어야 합니다. 그리고 스탠포드대학교 교수님의 스폰을 받으셔야 합니다. 당연히 재정적능력이 있어야 합니다.
역시 스탠포드대학교 CEAS에 초청받기 위해서는 넘어야 할 산이 높네요. 그럼에도 불구하고 기본적인 조건이 만족되는 분이면 적극적으로 도전하시길 바랍니다. 반달곰원장이 교수님의 초청을 받을 수 있도록 최선을 다해 도와드리겠습니다. 그럼 미국 방문학자 프로그램에 대해서 궁금한 것이 있는 분들은 언제든지 반달곰원장에게 문의주십시오.
