오늘은 미국 버몬트주에 있는 조그마한 대학교인 Saint Michael's College SMC에 대해서 말씀드리려고 합니다. SMC는 말씀드린대로 버몬트주에 있는 Colchester 에 위치해 있는 카톨릭 사립칼리지입니다. 약 2000여명의 학생들이 공부를 하는데 약 30여개의 전공에서 Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science 학위를 제공하고 있습니다.
반달곰원장이 시카고인근에 있는 Carthage College 를 소개해드린 적이 있는데 그 칼리지처럼 SMC도 크지 않은 리버럴아트대학교라고 보시면 무난하겠습니다. 2만여명의 학생중에서 국제학생은 약 190명정도가 됩니다. 1954년에 헝가리학생들이 영어공부를 하기위해서 SMC에 온 것이 처음이었으면 지금까지 총 120개국에서 약 2만여명의 학생들이 SMC에서 공부를 했었습니다. 그럼 SMC에 대한 전반적인 fact를 살펴보도록 하겠습니다.

SMC는 US News and World Report의 전국 liberal arts college 랭킹에서 99위를 차지하였습니다. 36개의 학사학위를 제공하고 있는데
STEM, 인문학, 경영학, TESOL, Pre-Law, Pre-Med 등의 전공을 제공하고 있습니다. 장학금이 일년에 21000달러까지 가능하고 학비와 생활
비등이 연간 35000달러 정도 됩니다. 그리고 졸업생들의 100%가 졸업후 6개월이내에 취업을 하고 있습니다. 대학입학을 위한 조건은 IBT
79, IELTS 6.5입니다.

영어점수등 모든 조건을 만족시키면 바로 입학할 수 있으나 영어점수가 부족하면 일정한 기간 영어공부를 하고 입학할 수 있는 pathway
program이 있습니다. 이 과정에 입학하기 위해서는 IBT 61/IELTS 5.5이상을 요구하고 있습니다. pathway 프로그램외에도 non-degree
program, Summer ESL, TESOL Program등을 제공하고 있는데 그 내용은 아래와 같습니다.
Non-Degree (Short term Study)

오늘 소개해드린 SMC가 명문대학교나 탑랭킹 대학교는 아닙니다. 그러나 실속있게 공부하면서 STEM, Business, Pre-Law, Pre-Medicine등의 공부를 할 수가 있습니다. 그리고 TESOL 석사학위도 받을 수 있고 모든 프로그램에서는 학생들이 온캠퍼스 하우징을 제공 받습니다. 즉, 모든 학생들이 캠퍼스 기숙사에서 살면서 공부할 수가 있는 것입니다.
