오늘은 반달곰원장이 미국 Western Kentucky University의 Undergraduate 프로그램 입학지원에 대해서 말씀드리겠습니다. 보통 WKU라고 말하는 웨스턴켄터키대학교에서 Undergraduate Program에 지원할 국제학생들을 적극적으로 찾고 있다고 합니다. 그래서 입학지원마감을 연장하여8월 1일 전까지만 지원서를 제출하면 올 가을 미국 WKU의 대학생이 될 수 있는 기회를 제공한다고 합니다. 9월에 신학기가 시작을 하니까 7월에 지원서를 제출한다는 것이 시간적으로 매우 촉박하나 학교에서 입학허가서 I-20만 빨리 발급해주면 학생비자 인터뷰만 통과하면 불가능하지 않습니다.
이 정도로 미국대학교들이 학생들을 리쿠르팅하기 위해서 정말 열심히 일하지요. 그리고 WKU는 입학조건을 바로 만족시키기 못하는 학생들을 위해서 PATHWAY PROGRA을 제공하고 있습니다. 보통 WKU에 바로 입학할 수 있으려면 고등학교 성적 GPA가 2.5이상이어야 하고 IELTS가 6.0이상이어야 합니다. 그러면 WKU 의 Undergraduate pathway admission requirements를 아래와 같이 간단하게 살펴보겠습니다.
- Students need at least a 2.0 Grade Point Average from high school
- Students need either a 61 on the TOEFL or a 5.5 on the IELTS
- If they are a transfer student then the GPA requirement is 2.0
- If the student does not meet the English language requirement they are welcome to apply through our English language program, ESLi
즉, 위에서 볼 수 있는 것처럼 고등학교 성적 GPA가 최소 2.0이상만 되면 WKU에 입학할 수가 있습니다. 바로 입학 할 수 있는 것은 아니고 아래와 같은 절차를 통해서 WKU Undergraduate Program으로 조인할 수가 있습니다.
- Applicants with no or low English scores will be placed into ESLi.
- Applicants with between a 2.0 and 2.5 and/or between a 5.5 and 6.0 IELTS (or TOEFL equivalent) will be conditionally admitted into our academic credit-bearing undergraduate bridge program, WKU Pathways. This is an excellent option for applicants who may have trouble being admitted at other universities, and our additional support in this program allows the student to make progress during their first year as all courses in WKU Pathways earn credit towards the student’s degree.
- Applicants with above a 2.5 GPA and a 6.0 IELTS will be directly admitted to WKU.
위에서 보듯이 GPA가 2.0에서 2.5사이인 학생과 영어 IELTS 5.5와 6.0사이인 학생들은 ESLi에서 영어공부를 할 수 있을 뿐만 아니라Undergraduate 프로그램을 조건부로 들으면서 학점을 받을 수가 있습니다. 이런 Bridge Program은 다른 대학교에서는 입학하는데 어려움을 겪을 수 있는 학생들에게는 정말 훌륭한 옵션일 수가 있습니다.
이런 WKU Undergraduate Pathway Program에 지원하기 위해서는 아래와 같은 입학절차를 진행하면 됩니다.
Our application process:
- Complete the online application – www.wku.edu/apply
- Pay the $75 application fee by credit card
- Submit a scanned copy of the official high school transcripts (in English) and the TOEFL or IELTS test results to iem@wku.edu
- If we have all the documents required the student’s application should be processed in approximately 48 business hours
서류들도 아주 심플합니다. 첫째가 입학지원서이고 그리고 입학지원서비 75달러, 영문고등학교 성적증명서, 그리고 토플이나 IELTS성적이 있으면 됩니다. 이렇게 제출하면 WKU는 48시간안에 입학사정절차를 진행하여 학생들이 조건부 입학을 할 수 있게 도와줍니다. 지난주는 미국의 독립기념일인 7월 4일이 있었습니다. 독립기념일이 중요한 것이 아니라 9월학기 시작 2개월전이라는 것이 중요한 것이지요. 미국대학교 진학을 원했는데 실기했던 학생들은 지금이라도 서둘러서 지원하시면 미국의 명문은 아니지만 아주 괜찮은 대학교에 입학할 수가 있습니다. 입학문의를 하고 싶은 분들은 반달곰원장에게 문의하시길 바랍니다. 친절하게 안내하여 드리겠습니다.
