HULT Prize는 단순한 자선행사로 이 사회에 도움을 줄 수 있는 것이 한계가 있다고 생각하여 좀 더 큰 개념으로 사회적기업을 통한 가난한 사람들, 경제적으로 어려운 사람들, 인간적인 삶을 영유하지 못한 열악한 환경에 있는 사람들을 돕기 위한 아이디어 공모전일뿐만 아니라 실제로 기업을 만들어서 외부의 펀딩을 받고 운영하여 수익을 만들어 내고 있는 최고의 Social Entreoreneurship 시상식입니다.
그러기에 세계적인 비즈니스스쿨들의 참신한 아이디어를 Social Entrepreneurship관점에서 평가하고 허허실실을 가려낼 심사위원진들은 그야말로 이 분야에서 긴다 난다하는 사람들이었습니다. 그들의 각각의 면모를 보면 대단하다는 생각보다는 그들이 저렇게 헌신하고 사회적기업정신을 펼쳐나가는 정열에 감사하다는 마음이 들었습니다. 반달곰원장이 행사를 지켜보면서 계속 생각한 것은 내가 청중으로 초대받아서 앉아있지만 나도 사회적기업을 만들어서 사회로부터 받은 것을 돌려주고 싶다는 생각이었습니다. 거대하게만 생각하지말고 조그마한 것에서 부터 시작하는 거지요. 무엇으로 이 대한민국 사회에 도움을 줄 수 있을지를 계속 생각하기로 했습니다.

Sanjay Gupta
CNN's Chief Medical Corespondent
and Neurosurgeon
Dr. Sanjay Gupta is the chief medical correspondent for CNN and host of the weekly program “Sanjay Gupta, M.D.” A practicing neurosurgeon, he reports on health and medical news for all CNN platforms as well as award winning documentaries . He also contributes to the CBS newsmagazine “60 Minutes.” Gupta has received Emmy Awards for his coverage of the devastating earthquake in Haiti and his reports on the crisis at Charity Hospital in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina. He contributed to CNN’s Peabody Award-winning coverage of the oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico, and the network’s Alfred I. duPont-Columbia Award for coverage of the tsunami disaster in Southeast Asia. In 2011 Forbes magazine named him as one of the “Ten Most Influential Celebrities.” Gupta is a faculty member at the Emory University School of Medicine and associate chief of neurosurgery at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta.

Fadi Ghandour is the founder and vice chairman of Aramex, one of the leading global logistics and transportation companies. He is the executive chairman of Wamda Capital, a venture capital fund focusing on technology investments in the Arab World.
Ghandour is also the managing partner of MENA Venture Investments, a seed capital investment company investing in early-stage tech companies. He is a member of the board of Abraaj Capital, a member of the board of trustees at the American University of Beirut, and chairman of the advisory council of the Center for Entrepreneurial Development (CED) at the Institute of Business Administration Karachi (IBA).
Kathleen Rogers

Kathleen Rogers, President of Earth Day Network, has worked for more than 20 years as an environmental attorney and advocate, focusing on international and domestic environmental public policy and law.
Kathleen has held senior positions with the National Audubon Society, the Environmental Law Institute, and two U.S. Olympic Organizing Committees. She has also worked for Garth Associates in New York City and the Beveridge & Diamond law firm, where she developed a white collar environmental crime defense practice. Kathleen was editor-in-chief of theUniversity of California at Davis Law Review, and clerked for the Honorable John Pratt at the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. She also worked with the U.S. Delegation at the United Nations Conference on Women.
Ashish Thakkar
Founder and Managing Director
Mara Group
Ashish Thakkar is the Founder and Managing Director of the Mara Group of companies. In 15 years, he has taken the Group from selling computers to friends, to a global firm that exists today in 18 African countries. Thakkar is passionate about the growth and development of Africa and focuses on commercial and philanthropic initiatives across the continent. In 2010, the Mara Group was identified by the World Economic Forum as a company with the potential to be a force for economic and social change. Thakkar has been appointed on the advisory panels to several heads of state in sub-Saharan Africa and is a team member of the Commonwealth Business Council and COMESA. He will be representing East Africa on Virgin Galactic's first mission into space, making him Africa's second astronaut.
Muhammad Yunus
Nobel Laureate
Nobel Laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus is the father of microcredit, the father of social business, the founder of Grameen Bank, and of more than 50 other companies in Bangladesh. For his constant innovation and enterprise, Fortune Magazine named Professor Yunus in March 2012 as one of 12 greatest entrepreneurs of our time."
Yunus has received several other national and international honors. He received the United States Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2009 and theCongressional Gold Medal in 2010. In 2008, he was rated #2 in Foreign Policy magazine's list of the 'Top 100 Global Thinkers'.
이 다섯분과 Hitendra 교수님의 대담은 그야말로 Social Entrepreneurship이 무엇이고 왜 이 사회에 기여하기 위해서 사회적기업을 창업해야 하는지에 대해서 알려주는 좋은 방법이었습니다. 그 대담이후에 빌 클린턴 대통령이 나와서 잠깐의 연설이지만 사회적기업에 대한 그의 생각을 간단히 피력하였고 바로 수상자로 인도의 Indian School of Business 를 호명하는 것으로 행사는 마무리 되었습니다. 그런데 재밌는 것은 그 이후였습니다. 워낙 유명한 분이라서 많은 분들이 심사위원과 클린턴대통령에게 이야기와 사진촬영을 요구했었지요. 그러나 클린턴대통령은 경호상 문제인지 무대아래로 내려오지 않더군요. 그리고 사람들이 올라가는 것도 경호원들이 저지해서 그의 모습을 지켜보는 것이 전부였습니다.
그러나 2006년도 노벨평화상수상자인 Yunus는 달랐습니다. MICROCREDIT이라는 가난한 기업들에게 무이자소액대출운동을 통해 많은 기업들을 살렸던 Yunus는 많은 사람들의 기대에 부응하여 사람들과 이야기도 나누고 사진도 찍고 하더군요! 반달곰원장도 운 좋게 같이 사진 촬영을 할 수 있었습니다. 좋은 일 하는 분이어서인지 사진만 찍었을 뿐인데 저도 사회적 기여에 대해서 계속 생각하게 되더군요!
세계적인 탑랭킹 1년제 MBA,HULT MBA에서 주최한 이번 HULT Prize와 많은 교수들, 스탭들을 만나면서 확실히 좋은 학교구나, 반달곰원장이 믿음을 갖고 열심히 컨설팅 해도 충분한 MBA라는 생각을 하게되었습니다. 반달곰원장이 UIC MBA를 졸업했지만 정말 교수들의 교수법과 학생들의 퀄리티 등을 비교하기가 어려울 정도로 HULT MBA는 달랐습니다. 정말 글로벌하게 이 세상을 살고 싶다면 그를 위해 영어공부도 해야하고 GMAT도 준비해야 한다고 생각합니다.
