UC계열의 캠퍼스가 연속으로 US News & World Report 2020랭킹의 최고 대학 리스트에 오르고 있는데요. 랭킹에서 39위를 차지한 UC Davis의 대학 입학 신청에 앞서 지원자가 알아야 하는 사항에 대해서 살펴보겠습니다.
UC Davis는 캘리포니아주의 데이비스 인근에 위치한 캠퍼스로 공립의 연구대학이자UC 계열 대학 중 하나입니다. 이 시스템에서 UCLA와UC Berkeley다음으로 세 번째로 큰 재학생 수를 가진 대학인데요. 1905년 설립 초기에 농업학교이였다가 1959년에 7번째의 UC 캠퍼스가 되었습니다.

전세계의 경제와 사회에 큰 영향을 주고 있는 코로나 바이러스 확산 사태로 입시를 준비하고 있는 고등학생 및 편입 준비생은 대학의 입학 요강에 민감하게 반응할 수밖에 없습니다. 앞서 여러 개의 UC 계열 캠퍼스를 살펴보았기에 UC의 굵직한 정책 및 자격 요건에서 벗어나지 않을거라는 것은 잘 아실 겁니다.
UC Davis의 경우 2021년 가을학기에 지원하는 학생의 경우 SAT/ACT 점수 제출에 대해서 UC 대학 이사회의 결정을 따라 다가올 입학 전형에서 이 성적 제출을 Optional로 한다고 발표했습니다. 학생이 원하면, 성적을 제출할 수 있지만, SAT/ACT는 요구하지 않으며, 종합적인 입학심사에 사용하지 않을거라고 합니다.
The University of California Board of Regents unanimously approved suspension of the standardized test requirement (ACT/SAT) for all California freshman applicants until fall 2024.
UC Davis will be test-optional for fall 2021 admission. Freshman applicants can submit SAT or ACT test scores if they choose. However, SAT or ACT test scores are not required and will not be used in our comprehensive review. If you are unable or choose not to submit test scores your application will still receive full consideration.
신입 지원의 경우 자격 요건으로 수강 과목에 대한 규정이 있습니다. UC계열에서 공통적으로 요구하는 자격이기에 이제 익숙해진 과목 리스트입니다. A-G 과목 자격에 관한 내용입니다.
A. History/social science = 2 years
B. English (or language of instruction) = 4 years
C. Mathematics = 3 years (4 years recommended)
D. Laboratory science = 2 years (3 years recommended)
E. Language other than English (or other second language) = 2 years (3 years recommended)
F. Visual and performing arts = 1 year
G. College preparatory elective = 1 year
많은 고등학교 수업이 코로나의 영향으로 온라인 수업이나 화상으로 진행되는 관계로 성적을 매기는 방식이 종전과 다를 수도 있습니다. 이것을 감안해서 SAT/ACT 성적 제출에 대해서 면죄부를 주는 것과 같은 방식으로 2020년 봄학기의 과목 성적 채점 방식이 Letter grade (A, B, C등) 요건을 유예했습니다. 이 기간동안 합격(P) 혹은 학점(CR) 성적으로 이수하는 과목은 적절하게 A-G 요건을 충족하는 것으로 합니다.
The University of California (UC) has suspended letter grade requirements for A-G courses completed in spring 2020. Courses completed during this time with Pass (P) or Credit (CR) grades will satisfy appropriate A-G requirements.
GPA요건도 있는데, 캘리포니아주 거주자의 경우 GPA가 3.0 이상이어야 하고, 그 외 지역 학생들은 GPA가 3.4 이상이어야 합니다.
입학신청은 8월 1일부터 오픈이 되었고, 신입 지원자는 11월 1일 ~30일 사이에 원서를 제출해야 합니다.
August 1 : Applicants for fall 2021 may start working on the UC application as early as August 1.
October 1–March 2 : Apply for financial aid at fafsa.ed.gov or dream.csac.ca.gov.
November 1–30 : The application filing period for fall 2021 admission to UC Davis opens November 1 and closes at 11:59 p.m. on November 30, 2020.
신입 지원자의 경우 8개의 옵션 질문 중 네 개를 선택해서 답변을 달아야 합니다. 350단어 제한이 있으며, 질문은 다음과 같습니다.
1. Describe an example of your leadership experience in which you have positively influenced others, helped resolve disputes or contributed to group efforts over time.
2. Every person has a creative side, and it can be expressed in many ways: problem solving, original and innovative thinking, and artistically, to name a few. Describe how you express your creative side.
3. What would you say is your greatest talent or skill? How have you developed and demonstrated that talent over time?
4. Describe how you have taken advantage of a significant educational opportunity or worked to overcome an educational barrier you have faced.
5. Describe the most significant challenge you have faced and the steps you have taken to overcome this challenge. How has this challenge affected your academic achievement?
6. Think about an academic subject that inspires you. Describe how you have furthered this interest inside and/or outside of the classroom.
7. What have you done to make your school or your community a better place?
8. Beyond what has already been shared in your application, what do you believe makes you stand out as a strong candidate for admissions to the University of California?

- Provide specific examples of experiences, accomplishments, etc. that occurred during or after high school that weren’t captured in your application.
- Keep your responses focused on conveying your strengths and positive qualities.
- Write a first draft, leave it for a day or two, and return to make revisions. Read each draft aloud to catch misspellings or awkward or inappropriate wording.
- Review your responses as if you were making the final decision. Is this the application of a future leader?
- Have your responses checked by a teacher, counselor or other advisor for clarity.
