발트 3국 중 리투아니아는 공식적으로 Republic of Lithuania라고 불리는 나라로 발트해의 남동쪽부분을 따라 자리잡고 있습니다. 발트해의 서쪽으로 스웨덴과 덴마크가 위치합니다. 리투아니아 동쪽으로 라트비아가 있고, 동쪽과 남쪽으로 벨라루스가, 남쪽에는 폴란드, 남서쪽으로 러시아의 영토가 있습니다. 리투아니아의 인구는 280만으로 수도이자 가장 큰 도시는 Vilnius이고요. 다른 주요한 도시로는 Kaunas, Klaipeda가 있습니다. 공식 언어는 리투아니아어인데, 라트비아어와 함께 발트 부분에서 오직 살아있는 두 개의 언어 중 하나로 여겨지고 있습니다.
오늘은 리투아니아 Kaunas에 위치한 공립 대학교인 Vytautas Magnus University (VMU)에 대해서 알아보겠습니다. 이 대학은 1922년에 세계 1,2차 양 대전 사이에 대안의 국립 대학으로 설립되었습니다. 초기에는 University of Lithuania로 알려졌으나 1930년에 현재의 이름으로 개명되었습니다. 리투아니아의 통치자였던 비타우타스의 500년의 죽음을 기념하는 의미로 이름을 따왔으며, 그는 15세기에 가장 큰 역사적인 확장으로 유명합니다. 1950년에 소련 정부에 의해 폐쇄되었으나 이 대학의 학문적인 전통은 독립이 회복될 때까지 이민자들에 의해 오랫동안 존속되어 왔습니다. 1989년 리투아니아와 이민 과학자들의 집단적인 노력 덕분에 대학이 다시 설립될 수 있었습니다.
8,800명의 학생수를 가진 리투아니아의 선도적인 대학 중 하나로 석사 및 박사 학위를 수여하고 있습니다.
VMU 예술 공간은 도시의 문화 핫스팟으로 Kaunas의 중요한 연례 문화 행사 및 축제는 바로 이 대학에서 열리며, 여기에는 벌써 20년의 역사를 가진 국제 카우나스 재즈 페스티벌과 현대 무용 국제 페스티벌이 있습니다. 거기에다 카우나스에서는 다양한 문화, 교육, 사회 활동이 열리고 있으며, 예술의 문화와 역사적인 문맥을 대표하는 교육적인 프로젝트와 전시회가 함께 열립니다.

VMU는 외국 학생이 영어로 된 학,석사 학위 과정의 지원을 환영합니다. VMU의 입학 신청 및 입학 과정은 International Cooperation 부서에서 중앙 집중적으로 실시합니다. 2019-2020학사 년도에는 봄학기 입학에 6개의 학사 프로그램과 10개의 석사 프로그램이 가능합니다.
입학 신청을 위해서는 입학신청비 100유로를 온라인 신청에 앞서 지불해야 합니다. 그리고, 온라인 신청서와 함께 다음의 서류를 업로드해야 합니다.
Copy of High School / Bachelor / Master’s degree diploma and its supplement (Transcript of Records / Mark sheet). Documents must be provided in the original language and translated into English, certified by a Notary and approved by an Apostille (for citizens of countries acceding to the 1961 Hague Convention).
Proof of English proficiency. Minimum requirements: TOEFL 87 iBT / 534 PBT; IELTS 5.5.; level B2; or an official document from an official institution showing you had courses in English or studied English language. Note! Please check each programme’s access requirements for proof of English proficiency and present the documents according to programme’s requirements.
Letter of motivation (1200–3000 characters).
Curriculum Vitae.
Copy of passport or other document of identification . Note! Document should be valid at least until October 2022).
Copy of document showing paid application fee of 100 EUR (Note: the name of the applicant and the date of payment should be indicated).
1 recent photo (3×4 cm).

2020-2021학년도의 입학 신청 시기는 2020년 2월 1일부터 7월 10일까지입니다.
