Riga Technical University (RTU)는 1862년에 설립된 발트 3국에서 가장 오래된 기술 대학입니다. 라트비아의 수도는 리가인데요. 바로 RTU대학이 라트비아의 수도인 리가에 위치합니다. 이 대학은 이전에는 Riga Polytechnical Institute와Riga Polytechnicum으로 알려져 있는데요. Riga Polytechnicum은 최초로 1862년에 설립되었고, 러시아의 최초 폴리테크닉 대학이었습니다. 농학, 화학, 공학, 기계공학, 무역, 건축 분야의 학위를 독일어로 된 교육과 함께 제공했습니다. 1896년에 Riga Polytechnical Institute로 이름을 바꿨고, 러시아어로 모든 교육 언어를 변경했습니다.
1869년 폴리테크니쿰에서 건축학과의 설립은 리가에서 특징적인 Art Nouveau 건축학의 발전에 대한 결과와 함께 리가에 현지에 훈련된 건축가들을 제공하는데 큰 도움이 되었습니다.
1914년 제 1차 세계대전이 시작되자 Riga Polytechnical Institute는 모스크바로 대피하였고, 1918년까지 러시아에 남게 되었습니다. 그런 후에 일부 교수진이 라트비아로 돌아왔고, 새롭게 설립된 University of Latvia에 합류했습니다.
Riga Polytechnical Institute는 1958년에 State University of Latvia에서 공학과를 분리하여 재설립되었습니다. 1990년에 오늘 설명드릴 Riga Technical University로 개명되었는데요. 현재 RTU 대학은 33개의 학과를 포함하는 9개의 단과대학으로 구성되어 있습니다.

입학신청을 위해서는 온라인 신청서 이외에 다음의 서류를 미리 준비해야 합니다.
· A Motivation Letter – highlighting why you would like to attend the chosen programme and explaining your future academic and career goals;
· CV – detailing your educational background and professional experience, if applicable.
· Copies of passport identification pages;
· Your previous education document copies or the most recent transcripts if final scores are not yet available (official final certificates and transcripts are required) .Education documents must be accompanied by English translations of all certificates and transcripts along with approval of the documents authenticity;
· Proof of English certificate or other acceptable information, according to the set language requirements by the Riga Technical University.
입학신청비는 150 Euro로 온라인 신청서 지원 시 지불할 수 있습니다. 온라인 지원과 필요한 서류를 제출하고 3일 이내에, 비디오 인터뷰를 보라는 이메일을 받게 되며, 필요에 따라 온라인 입학 시험을 보라는 안내를 받게 됩니다.
학사 과정 지원자의 입학 자격 요건은 고등학교 졸업으로 좋은 성적을 유지해야 하는데, 특히 수학이나 물리에 우수한 성적을 요구합니다. 성적 및 졸업 증명서는 영어 번역본이 수반되어야 하며, 영어가 모국어가 아닌 학생의 경우 공인영어 성적을 제출해야 합니다.
IELTS는 5.5 이상, TOEFL의경우 최소 61점 이상을 제시하거나 고등학교를 영어를 사용하는 곳에서 다녔다면, 그것을 증명하는 레터와 함께 제출 가능합니다. 그리고, RTU 영어 온라인 시험을 봐서 영어 능력을 검증할 수도 있습니다. RTU 학부 과정에 지원하는 학생은 스카이프 비디오 인터뷰와 온라인 수학시험과 공인영어 성적을 제출하지 않은 경우 영어 입학시험을 봐야 합니다.
RTU 석사 과정에 지원한 신청자는 학사 학위증명서, 성적 증명서와 영어 번역본이 필요하며, 공인영어 시험 성적의 경우, IELTS 6.0 이상, TOEFL 75점 이상의 점수가 필요합니다.

학사 과정은 3~4.5년 정도 소요되고, 석사 과정은 1~2.5년 정도 걸립니다. 학비는 1년에 약 2,400Euro부터 시작하며, 영어 진행의 학사 과정의 경우 2020학년도의 학비는 아래와 같습니다.
한국 학생은 RTU와의 협정으로 장학금을 신청할 수 있는 나라에 속하기 때문에 입학 허가 레터를 받으면 라트비아 정부의 장학금을 신청할 수 있습니다. 입학 신청 마감일과 장학금 신청 마감일이 거의 같기 때문에 장학금을 신청하려면, 일찍 지원하는 것이 좋습니다.
