오늘은 두바이의 유명한 Nord Anglia School in Dubai에 대해서 안내를 해드리겠습니다. 그런데 그 학교에 대해서 말씀드리기전에 Nord Anglia Education에 대해서 말씀을 드리는 것이 이해가 쉬울 것 같아서 말씀을 드립니다. 보통 Nord Anglia 라고 부르는데 주요 국제학교 International school provider입니다. Nord Anglia는 나이 2세에서 18세사이의 어린이들에게 교육을 제공하는데 전세계 44개 학교을 운영중에 있습니다. 이 학교에서 공부하는 학생의 숫자가 약 3만8천명정도 됩니다.
Nord Anglia 는 preschool, primary, middle school, high school학생들에게 IGCSEs 와 International Baccalaureate IB 과정을 제공하고 있습니다. 몇개의 다른 학교에서는 A-level과 French Baccalaureate 과정등을 제공하고 있습니다. 원래 Nord Anglia는 영국에 헤드쿼터가 있었는데 홍콩으로 자리를 옮겼습니다. 2015년부터는 Nord Anglia는 Julliard School과 협력하여 performing arts 교육을 제공하고 있고, 2016년에서 MIT와 함께 STEAM fields(science, technology, engineering, arts, math)관련 교육을 제공한다고 발표할 정도로 매우 좋은 학교입니다.
그래서 반달곰원장은 전세계44개 학교중에 하나인 Nord Anglia School in Dubai NAS Dubai 에 대해서 알아보도록 하겠습니다. 반달곰원장이 이번에 두바이출장을 다녀왔을 때 반달곰원장의 파트너인 ES Dubai의 디렉터 몬세라떼가 운전을 하면서 반달곰원장에게 설명을 해주기를 자신의 자녀들을 NAS Dubai를 보냈는데 정말 좋은 학교라며 설명을 해주었었습니다. 그런데 학비가 너무 비싸서 다른 학교로 옮겼다고 하길래 NAS Dubai에 대해서 많은 관심을 가지게 되었었습니다.
NAS Dubai는 2013년에 설립되었고 2014년 가을에 학교를 오픈하고 수업을 시작하였습니다. NAS 전체 시스템처럼 전학년 아이들에게 IB와 English National Curriculum을 제공하고 있습니다. 그럼 어떠 과정으로 NAS Dubai에 입학할 수 있는지 살펴보도록 하겠습니다.
The stages to follow are:
1. Contact us for an initial conversation.
2. Complete an application form.
3. Submit the application form along with a AED 500 non-refundable application fee and your supporting documentation (see below).
4. We will then contact you to arrange an onsite assessment or a remote assessment at your current school. If you are in Dubai or visiting we would also like to arrange a meeting with the Head of School.
5. If you are applying for Year 7 or Year 9 your child will be required to sit a formal entrance exam. If you are in Dubai or the UAE you will be asked to attend an assessment date at the school.
6. If applying to Year 10 we shall schedule an interview either in person or by Skype. This is essential before a place can be offered.
7. Submit school reports and the recommendation form from your current school.
8. Your application and assessment will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee and Head of School and you shall be notified of our decision.
9. Once a place is offered you will need to pay the deposit within 7 days of receiving an offer letter.
Before your child's first day at school, we will offer a comprehensive orientation program where you will be able to meet your child’s teacher and ask any outstanding questions to make sure your child settles in quickly and happily.

NAS Dubai는 입학하고 싶다고 막 입학할 수 있는 학교가 아니고 시험을 봐서 학습능력이 되는 학생들에게 입학의 기회를 제공합니다. 그리고 residence visa가 필요하므로 두바이 주재원의 자녀이거나 두바이에 residence visa가 있는 학생들의 입학이 가능하다고 보시는 것이 편합니다. 그럼 학비가 어느 정도 되는지 알아보겠습니다.
위의 학비를 보면 지난번에 소개해드린 SISD랑 비교할 때 학비가 그렇게 비싼 것은 아닙니다. 워낙 SISD의 학비가 쎈편이어서 그럴 수가 있으나 국제학교의 학비치고는 그 정도면 괜찮다고 생각을 합니다. 데이스쿨로 다니기에는 아주 좋은 곳이 NAS Dubai같습니다. 그래서 학생수가 1500여명이나 될 정도로 규모가 큽니다.
