새해가 밝고 두번째 맞는 새로운 한주의 시작, 월요일입니다. 오늘 반달곰원장이 소개해드릴 방문학자 프로그램은 미국 맨하탄의 명문대학교 콜롬비아대학교 Columbia University Law School Visiting Scholar Program입니다. 콜롬비아 로스쿨 방문학자 프로그램은 그동안 수 많은 international scholars, professors, judges, practitioners, and government officials 등을 초청해오고 있습니다. 그러므로 우리나라의 법대교수, 판사, 검사, 변호사, 그리고 공무원분들도 필요한 요건들을 갖춘다면 초청받아서 연구활동을 할 수가 있습니다.
그럼 우리나라 법조인들과 공무원들이 초청을 받기위해서는 어떤 application procedure를 밞아야 하는지를 아래와 같이 설명해드리겠습니다.
Application Procedures
All prospective Visiting Scholars, regardless of country of residence or any existing affiliation, must submit an application form and the supporting materials.
The required documents are:
1. Completed Visiting Scholar Application (Please use Adobe Reader to open the application, fill in your responses, make changes and save as YOUR FULL NAME_VS Application.)
2. Curriculum Vitae (C.V.)
3. One-page research proposal
4. List of Publications
5. Two (2) Letters of Recommendation
6. English Proficiency IBT 100/CBT 250/ PBT 600
모든 방문학자 희망자는 위와 같이 application을 작성하고 CV, 그리고 한페이지짜리 연구계획서, 그동안 출간한 논문을 포함한 출판물, 그리고 마지막으로 추천서 2부가 필요합니다. 영어는 토플 IBT 100점이상이어야 합니다. 영어점수가 없는 경우에는 학원에서 수강한 확인서를 제출하면 됩니다. 그런데 점수와 영어수강한 기록이 없으면 대신 할 수 있는 영어인터뷰는 시행하지를 않습니다. 그러므로 영어점수를 꼭 만드시길 바라겠고 토익은 안되오니 토플로 준비해주시길 바랍니다.
이렇게 지원서류를 만든 후에 입학지원일정에 맞추어서 지원을 해야 합니다. application deadline은 다음과 같습니다.
Application Deadlines
Applications will be reviewed three times during the year, corresponding with three program intakes, as follows:
§ Fall intake - Candidates who propose to join the program in the Fall term should submit their applications no later than April 1.
Candidates from Greater China - please review special instructions.
§ Spring intake – Candidates who propose to join the program during the Spring term should submit their applications no later than September 1 of the previous year.
§ Summer intake – Candidates who propose to join the program during the Summer break should submit their applications no later than March 1.
The Office of International Programs, after sending an invitation, is generally not able to defer the intake period for which a visitor has been invited. Invited applicants may, however, choose to re-apply at a later time.
가을 입학을 원하시는 분들은 4월 1일, 봄학기 입학을 원하시는 분들은 9월 1일, 여름학기 입학을 원하는 분들은 3월 1일까지 입니다. 그러므로 지금은 여름학기에 입학을 원하시는 분들이 입학지원을 하면 좋습니다. 그럼 콜롬비아대학교 로스쿨 방문학자로 가게되면 납입해야 하는 비용들에 대해서 알아보겠습니다.
Fees
Application Fee. There is no application charge at this time. Prospective applicants should be aware, however, that a $75 application fee is under consideration and may be instituted in the near future.
Program Fee. There is an administrative Program Fee of $7,500 per academic year; $3,750 for a single semester; and $2,000 for a summer-only stay. Visitors who are not primarily employed as scholars, students, government officials, judicial officers or civil society leaders will be assessed a 33% surcharge.
Visa Processing Fee. Visiting Scholars who require a visa will be charged a U.S. government mandated fee of $300 by the International Student & Scholars Office (ISSO) of Columbia University.
application fee는 지금 현재 없습니다만 가까운 미래에 75달러가 부과될 수가 있습니다. 그리고 우리가 소위 학비라고 이야기하는 학교에 납입해야 하는 administration fee는 일년에 7500달러입니다. 그리고 한 semester당 3750달러입니다. 그리고 여름에 머물경우에는 2000달러를 납입해야 합니다. 그리고 로스쿨에서 주로 초청하는 직군들이 아닌 분들이 초청받을 때는 33% subcharge가 붙습니다. 그리고 비자를 필요로 하는 우리나라 방문학자들의 경우 visa processing fee로 300달러를 내야 합니다.
