오늘은 미국 텍사스 휴스톤에 있는 명문대학교인 Rice University의 Jones Graduate School of Business에 대해서 알아보겠습니다. 지난번에 텍사스 오스틴에 있는 University of Texas at Austin MBA를 알아보았었는데요, 이번에는 휴스톤의 비즈니스스쿨입니다. 우리나라 분들이 휴스톤지역으로 많이 가야하는데 캘리포니아와 동부의 보스톤지역이나 뉴욕, 워싱턴DC지역을 선호해서 Rice Jones MBA가 랭킹이 매우 높은데도 불구하고 졸업생들이 매우 많은 것은 아닙니다.
그럼 Rice University Jones Graduate School of Business가 얼마나 훌륭한지 그 랭킹을 위키피디아를 통해서 대표적인 것만 살펴보도록 하겠습니다.
• U.S. News & World Report ranks the Jones School full-time MBA program among top 25 U.S business schools in 2016.
• Bloomberg Businessweek ranks the Jones School among top 20 U.S business schools in 2015 and the 3rd best part-time MBA in 2015.
• The Economist in 2009 ranks the Jones School 22nd among U.S. business schools – the highest ranked business school in Texas and the Southwest.

총 3라운드의 지원과정이 있는데 1라운드지원마감은 10월 5일, 2라운드 지원은 1월 9일, 3라운드지원은 4월 7일까지 입니다. 이런 지원일정에 맞추어서 준비해야할 지원조건은 아래와 같습니다.
Step 1: Gather Academic Records
Requirement: Unofficial transcripts from all degree-granting institutions and institutions at which you earned nine (9) or more credit hours.
Step 2: Take Standardized Tests
Requirement: Unofficial GMAT or GRE score reports; unofficial TOEFL/IELTS/PTE score reports if applicable.
Step 3: Think About Work Experience and Extracurricular Activities
Requirement: Professional resume
Step 4: Obtain Evaluations
Requirement: one professional recommendation from current direct supervisor; two recommendations if first is not from current direct supervisor
Step 5: Write Essays
Requirement: Two essays for Full-Time MBA applicants
Essay #1:
- Full-Time MBA – “Describe your short-term and long-term goals, and how the MBA will help you to achieve those goals. Include in your discussion: Why is now the appropriate time to pursue an MBA and why are you interested in obtaining a Rice MBA?” (Maximum 750 words)
Essay #2:
Applicants to the Full-Time MBA programs must also choose one essay from the following three options:
- “Describe a defining moment or event that changed your life.” (300 words)
- Tweet: “If you had to tweet something to the world for the first time about yourself, what would you tweet?” (140 characters)
- Video: “Introduce yourself to your classmates in a 90 second video.”
Optional Essay
You may use this essay to discuss anything else that you would like the Admissions Committee to know about you, or to provide information or clarification on any aspect of your application. (Maximum 750 words)
Step 6: Interviews
Requirement: Admissions interview
위와 같은 지원조건을 맞추어야 하는데 구체적으로 영어점수와 GMAT점수에 대한 커트라인은 없습니다. 다만 학생들의 프로파일을 보면 작년에 입학한 109명의 학생들의 평균GMAT 점수는 676점이고 mean은 690점입니다. 평균GPA는 3.4입니다. 미국 탑랭킹MBA중에서는 평균 직장경력이 5.4년으로 좀 긴편입니다. 그리고 Rice Jones MBA의 학비는 1년에 53000달러입니다. 22개월이니까 2년으로 계산하면 십만 6천불이나 됩니다. 그러므로 Rice MBA지원할 때 상당히 잘 준비해서 지원해야 합니다. 2017년도 Rice MBA에 지원하고자 하는 분은 반달곰원장에게 문의하시길 바랍니다. 친절하게 도와드리겠습니다.
