인구 240만이 사는 Metro Vancouver는 캐나다 서부에서 가장 큰 도시이고,북미 지역에서 가장 활기찬 도시 중 하나로 꾸준히 순위에 오르면서 살기 좋은 곳으로 여러 번 소개되는 안전한 곳입니다.이런 밴쿠버에 네 개의 캠퍼스를 가지고 있는 Kwantlen Polytechnic University는 지난 포스팅에서 소개를 해드렸습니다.
밴쿠버는 British Columbia 주에 위치하는 것은 잘 아실텐데요.평균 기온이 1월에는 7도, 3월 10도, 6월 20도, 9월 19도로 춥지도 덥지도 않은 아주 온화한 기온을 보이는 곳입니다.밴쿠버에는 많은 외국인이 살고 있는 곳이기도 한데요. BC주에서 공부하는 학생 30%의 국제학생이 졸업 후에도 이 곳에 남아 있기로 한다고 하니 지내기 편한 곳이 틀림없어 보입니다.특히,캐나다는 컬리지를 졸업한 후 최대 3년의 워크 퍼밋을 받을 수 있는 나라이기 때문에 공부도 하고,현지에서 일을 하면서 경력을 쌓다가 영주권도 도전해 볼 수 있는 장점을 가진 나라이기에 학생들이 유학을 결정할 때 늘 고려 대상인 나라입니다.
Kwantlen Polytechnic University의 장점은 지난 포스팅에서도 언급했지만,이런 목적으로 공부를 하거나 아니면,상위 레벨의 학위를 위한 중간 과정이 필요하거나 하는 학생들 모두를 충족시키는 퀄러티를 갖고 있습니다.캐나다 정부가 지정한 모든 학습 기준에 적합하며, Universities Canada의 회원교로 학생들에게 높은 수준의 교육을 제공하고 있습니다.
또한, KPU에서 학부 과정 중 캠퍼스 안이나 밖에서 일할 수 있는 기회가 주어지며,파트 타임으로 일을 해서 생활비를 벌 수 있어 유학 경비에 대한 부담을 좀 줄일 수 있을 것입니다.
캐나다의 학생비자인 Study Permit은 학기 중에는 주당 20시간의 일을 할 수가 있으며,방학 중에는 주당 40시간까지 일을 할 수 있습니다.
KPU는 Polytechnic University로 전통적인 학술 이론과 경력중심, 응용 학문이 잘 혼합된 수업을 받게 되어 이론적인 기초가 탄탄할 뿐만 아니라 직장이나 지역 사회에 바로 응용할 수 있는 실무적인 기술력도 갖출 수 있습니다.
특별히 오늘 설명드릴 부분은 KPU Pathway과정입니다. Pathway to Undergraduate Studies로 영어 실력을 높이면서 대학 수업을 준비할 수 있는 프로그램인데,영어실력은 부족한데,빨리 캐나다에 가서 대학 준비를 하고 싶은 학생들에게 안성맞춤인 프로그램입니다.
이 패스웨이 과정 중에 듣게 되는 영어 수업은 Prerequisites로 인정이 되며,레벨에 따라 듣는 KPU 학부 수업은 학점으로 인정을 받을 수 있어 전체 유학 기간을 단축할뿐만 아니라 유학 경비도 절감할 수 있습니다.

- 지원 시점에서 KPU Undergraduate Pathway 과정으로 직접 입학신청
- 두 개의 입학스텝에서 학부 과목을 들을 수 있는 기회를 갖게 됨

다음과 같이 총 5가지 스텝으로 패스웨이가 진행이 됩니다
Step 1 : English Proficiency Upgrading
- Requirement :평가와 placement 테스트가 주어짐
- Upgrading Options : ENGQ courses,, ELSQ courses, ELST Courses 0041-0183
Step 2 : Upgrading with Select Undergraduate Options
- Requirement :English 12(C-), or IELTS 5.5나 이와 동등한 영어실력
- Upgrading Options : ENGQ 089, ELST courses 0256-0283
- Undergraduate Options :Undergraduate Options에서 최대 4 credits를 고르게 됨
Step 3 : Upgrading with Expanded Undergraduate Options
- Requirement : English 12(C-), or IELTS 6.0이나 이와 동등한 영어실력
- Upgrading Options : ENGQ 1091, 1092 혹은 1099, ELST courses 0365-0383
- Undergraduate Options :Expanded Undergraduate Options에서 최대 8 credits를 고르게 됨
Step 4 : Upgrading Complete
- 영어수준을 높이는 과정을 마치게 되어 Expanded Undergraduate Option에서 최대 12 credits를 골라 듣게 됩니다.다음 단계인 학부 과정을 위해 아카데믹 어드바이저를 만나 다음 학기의 등록과 관련해서 상의를 해야 합니다.

KPU 학생이되기위해서는입학조건중영어실력을증명해야하는데요.고등학교에서English 12를듣고,C학점이상을받거나학부에서English(ENGL)에서C-이상3학점을받았거나공인영어성적인IELTS, TOEFL, PTE 등으로증명하는방법, KPU의English Placement Test인EPT로실력을인정받는방법등으로입학자격인English Proficiency Requirement를충족시킬수있습니다.
