오늘은 잠시 유럽쪽으로 눈을 돌려 영국 Canterbury에 있는 University of Kent을 소개하고자 합니다. University of Kent는 Guardian University Guide에서 2015년에 University of Kent를 UK에서 Top 20에 올랐고, National Student Survey에서 전체 만족도가 꾸준히 90%이상을 유지하면서 앨리트 그룹의 학교 중의 하나입니다. 또한, 영국내에서 최고의 교수진을 확보하고 있으며, 연구중심 대학으로 History, Metallurgy and Materials, Law, French, Social policy, statistics and Operational research, English와 같은 분야에서 혁신적인 사고로 유명한 Research leader들이 있는 대학입니다.

Kent는 23개의 Academic Schools에서 400개의 학부과정과 120개의 대학원 과정을 제공하고 있습니다.
Undergraduate에서는 3~4년의 학습기간을 성공적으로 마치면, BA(Bachelor of Arts), BSc(Bachelor of Science)의 학사학위를 받게 되며, 일년 동안 다른 나라에서 공부를 하거나 work placement를 받아 일을 하게 될 경우 4년으로 학업을 마치게 됩니다. 이때 학위는 학생이 어떤 분야에서 공부를 했는지에 따라 달리 받게 됩니다. Kent 대학의 학부과정에서 수여하는 학위는 다음과 같습니다.

International Foundation (IFP)프로그램은 일년 과정으로 성공적으로 코스를 마치면,학부 과정으로의 진학을 보장합니다.영어 능력 개발과 Humanities (Literature, Drama, Film, Architecture, History 등); Social Sciences (Law, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, International Relations, Psychology 등), Sciences (Electronics, Computing, Bio-Sciences 등)과 같은 전공 옵션으로 이루어져 있습니다. IELTS 5.0의 영어점수만 있으면,이 과정에 입학할 수 있습니다.
만약위의영어점수에못미치는학생이라면, Pre-sessional Course를수강하는방법이있습니다.

이 과정은 37 weeks (October – September), 28 weeks (January – September), 17 weeks (May – September), 10 weeks (June – September), 6 weeks (July – September), 4 weeks (August – September), 8 weeks (October – December로1월 시작하는 IFP을 위한Pre-sessional course임)
이 영어과정은 주당 약 20시간의 수업을 제공하며, Canterbury 캠퍼스에서 들을 수 있습니다.세미나,워크샾,강의,그룹이나 짝과 함께 하는 과제뿐만 아니라 독립된 연구과제도 포함하는 그런 학습을 받게 됩니다.
