오늘은 미국방문연구 프로그램중 가장 문의가 많은 학교중에 하나인 UCLA Center for Korean Studies 한국학연구소 방문학자 프로그램 visiting fellowship 에 대해서 안내를 해드리겠습니다. 미국대학교 중에는 한국학연구소가 있는 곳이 많습니다. 얼마전에 소개해드린 UCLA 한국학연구소를 비롯하여 UC Berkeley 한국학연구소, 뉴욕주립대학교 SUNY 빙햄턴대학 한국학연구소 등이 있습니다.
UCLA 한국학연구소 방문학자프로그램은 아카데믹 학자 교수들, 고위공무원들을 위한 프로그램입니다. 방문학자들은 대체로 로스엔젤레스 지역사회 뿐만 아니라 한국학연구소 교수들과 대학원생들에게 가치있는 자원들을 제공해줍니다. 그리고 한국학 연구에 대한 UCLA의 역량을 향상 시켜줍니다. 그리고 UCLA한국학연구소는 방문학자에게 제한되지만 행정적 도움을 제공해줍니다. UCLA도서관이나 연구소시설 출입 사용같은 것을 말합니다. UCLA대학교 전반적인 협소한 공간 제한으로 안타깝게도 한국학연구소에서는 방문학자들에게 개인연구공간은 제공할 수가 없습니다.
그럼 UCLA 한국학연구소에 지원할 수 있는 자격을 알려드리겠습니다.
Qualifications
- Ph.D., or equivalent evidence of professional achievement, by the time the appointment would begin.

2. Preference is given to scholars from institutions with which UCLA has signed academic-exchange agreements and to
scholars who are personally recommended by UCLA faculty in Korean Studies.
UCLA와 교환협정을 맺은 연구소나 학교의 학자 그리고 UCLA한국학연구소 교수의 추천을 받은 학자에게 우선권이 있습니다.
3. A UCLA faculty member's consent to serve as the university sponsor for the applicant during his or her stay at UCLA. UCLA
한국학연구소에서 연구하는 동안 스폰서로서 도와주겠다는 UCLA 교수의 동의
4. Due to space and administrative limitations, there is an annual quota on the number of visiting scholars who may be
invited by the Center. The Center may not be able to accommodate all qualified candidates who apply in any one year.
공간과 행정적 제한때문에, 초청될 수 있는 방문학자의 수가 제한되어있습니다. 그래서 모든 희망자를 초청할 수가 없습니다.
그럼 UCLA한국학연구소에 지원하기 위해 필요한 서류와 비요을 알려드리겠습니다.
- A curriculum vitae or professional resume.
- A proposal (no more than 1 page double-spaced), outlining the research that will be undertaken while in residence at the Center.
- A photocopy of passport clearly showing picture, number and expiration date.
- A letter of recommendation from a scholar with expertise in the area of the applicant's intended research (required only for non-academic applicants).
- A certified statement of financial support from the applicant's place of employment or financial institution. (Affidavit of Support)
- Documentation certifying sufficient proficiency in the English Language:
• A recognized English language test
• Signed documentation from an academic institution or English language school - The insurance policy must provide the following coverage
a. $100,000 per accident/illness in medical coverage
b. An annual deductible of no more than $500
c. Coinsurance that does not exceed 25%
d. Medical evacuation up to $50,000
e. Repatriation up to $25,000
여기서 가장 중요한 것은 CV와 연구계획서를 작성하여 방문희망시일을 결정하여 학교에 문의하는 것입니다. 초청의사를 확인한 후에 바로 서류 작성하고 제출하면 됩니다. 비용은 application fee $500과 년간 학비로는 교수님들에게는 $3000, 그리고 공무원등에게는 $8000가 발생합니다.
