안녕하세요, 반달곰원장입니다.






반달곰원장이 지난주에 있었던 ICEF Toronto Workshop에 참석하기전에 샌프란시스코에 내려서 반달곰원장이 공부하였던 버클리를 방문하였습니다. 역시 자기가 살았던 곳을 오랜만에 가면 감동스러운가 봅니다. 정말 새롭고 기분이 좋았습니다. 특히나 옛날에 가난한 유학생시절 지지리궁상을 떨며 살던 시절을 생각하니 지금 사업을 하고 있는 반달곰원장이 기특하기 그지 없었습니다.






반달곰원장이 공부하였던 UC Berkeley IDP Office를 방문하여 반달곰원장을 가리치셨던 Bob을 만나서 해후를 나누고 이런 저런 잠깐 하는 사이에 비즈니스이야기를 하고 바로 소개로 Berkeley English Studies Institute 의 Bonu를 만나게되었습니다. 참으로 세상이 좁고 비즈니스는 너무나 쉽게 만들어질 수 있구나 하는 것을 느낄 수 있었습니다.





그렇게 UCB IDP를 방문한 후에 UC Berkeley 캠퍼스를 본격적으로 방문하였는데 반달곰원장이 컨설팅을 하는 UC Berkeley Haas MBA와 Berkeley Law도 들릴 수가 있었습니다. 그래서 오늘은 바로 반달곰원장이 자주 컨설팅을 하는 UC Berkeley School of Law에 있는 Center for School of Law and Society 의 방문학자 프로그램에 대해서 새로운 정보가 있어서 안내를 해드립니다. 학교에서 안내하고 있는 정보를 그대로 옮기면 아래와 같습니다.





Applications for Visiting Scholars Program

 

 

THE DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS FOR 2017-2018 IS NOVEMBER 14, 2016.

The Center for the Study of Law and Society invites applications for visiting scholars for 2017-2018. The Center fosters empirical research and theoretical analysis concerning legal institutions, legal processes, legal change, and the social consequences of law. Closely linked to the School of Law, CSLS creates a multidisciplinary milieu with a faculty of distinguished socio-legal scholars in sociology of law, political science, criminal justice studies, law and economics, legal history, law and psychology, and legal and social philosophy, along with visiting socio-legal scholars from the United States and around the world.  

Among the benefits of being a visiting scholar at the Center for the Study of Law and Society are: library privileges at the Law School and at all campus libraries; invitation to our weekly CSLS Speaker Series, workshops, and scholarly exchanges; UCB campus privileges, such as athletic facilities and permission to audit classes; and, when possible, assignment to shared or other office space and use of computer, internet, and other facilities.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

1. Applicants normally must possess a Ph.D. or J.D. (or foreign equivalent).

2. Applicants must submit a full curriculum vitae.

3. Applicants must submit a letter describing their proposed program of research or study,  specifying the time period they wish to be in residence at the Center.  Applicants must pursue a program of research or study which is of mutual interest to faculty members at the Center for the Study of Law and Society.

4. Applicants must indicate their source of funding while visiting Berkeley, e.g. sabbatical pay, scholarship, government funding, personal funds, etc. Unfortunately, the Center cannot offer stipends or other financial assistance. Monthly minimum requirements for foreign exchange scholars are: $1600 per month for the J-1 scholar, $500 per month for the J-2 spouse, $200 per month for each J-2 child.

5. Applicants must be proficient in English in order to benefit from CSLS programs.

The Center will consider applications for periods of time that vary from one month duration to the full academic year.  


FEES

Berkeley campus fee
Each visitor is required to pay an annual $500 University Service Fee to the Berkeley campus to obtain a campus ID card and to have access to the Berkeley Libraries and University facilities. This fee is collected by the Visiting Scholars and Postdoc Affairs office (VSPA) and paid online after the scholar arrives.

CSLS fee
Since 2011-2012, each visiting scholar has been required to pay $200 per semester or part of a semester, payable after the scholar arrives. The CSLS fee does not apply to visiting student researchers.

Foreign Visitors (DS-2019) fee
There is an assessment of $550 charged for the application processing of a DS-2019 document needed to secure a J-1 visa.

Unless otherwise noted, all fees should be paid by check or money order and made payable to the Regents of the University of California.
