반달곰원장이 방문학자를 컨설팅하면서 많이 보내드린 대학교는 아마도 듀크대학교와 UCSD GLI일 것 같습니다. 듀크대학교에는 정치학과의 방문학자 프로그램을 주로 컨설팅해 드렸었는데 2016년에 듀크대학교 Asia/Pacific Studies Institue에 Duke Korea Research Fellow Program이 생겨서 반달곰원장이 많이 보내드렸었지요. 프로그램 초창기라서 듀크대학교 교수님도 스폰서쉽을 받는 공무원이나 교수님들을 초청해달라고 말씀하셔도 가급적이면 듀크대학교 한국학센터로 보내드렸었습니다.
지금은 듀크대학교 한국학센터가 많이 알려졌고 방문학자 희망가자 많아서 센터에서 수용할 수 있는 인원의 한계를 초과하여서 이제는 많이 보내드리기는 어렵습니다. 그래도 한국학과 관련이 있는 교수나 강사, 공무원, 전문직분들은 초청여부를 도전해 볼 수 있습니다. 그러니 아래에서 설명드리는 내용을 잘 참고하셔서 반달곰원장의 도움을 받아 지원하시길 바랍니다.

Beginning in 2016, APSI will accept applications from Korean professionals (e.g. journalists, researchers, librarians, civil servants and educators) seeking to conduct independent study under the guidance of a Duke University mentor and with the assistance of the coordinating professors
위에서 설명하고 있듯이 신문기자, 방송기자, 연구원, 도서관사서, 공무원, 교수들 교육자등이 보통 초청대상입니다. 이 분들은 듀크대학교 한국학센터의 교수님을 멘토로 삼아서 자신의 전문분야에 대해서 독자적인 연구활동을 하면 됩니다. 그럼 Duke Korea Research Fellowship 프로그램의 비용과 어떤 것을 도와주는지 상세하게 알아보겠습니다.
Fees: The annual program fee is $5,000.
The Korea Research Fellowship includes:
-Active mentoring by faculty coordinators and meetings with designated faculty advisor
-Engagement in regular seminar meetings through the Korea Forum, including an opportunity to present research to an encouraging audience
-Regular reporting for funding agencies
-Access to DUKE libraries
-DUKE University ID Card that will allow the scholar to access facilities at Duke. Additional fees may apply for accessing certain facilities such as athletic facilities.
-DUKE email address and on-campus internet access
-Audit up to one Duke University course per semester (subject to instructor approval)
-Access to all talks and seminars sponsored or cosponsored by the APSI, AMES, and the Korea Forum
비용은 일년에 5천달러입니다. 듀크대학교와 같은 미국 탑10안에 드는 종합대학교로 방문학자를 가는데 학교에 내는 비용은 5천달러입니다. 그런데 일부유학원과 모회사에서 CASU LA나 SUNY 빙행턴같은 곳으로 방문학자를 가는데 2만달러, 3만달러의 비용을 받는 것은 완전 폭리입니다. 그런 곳으로 가지 마시고 반달곰원장이 소개해드리는 듀크대학교나 다른 좋은 대학교로 가시는 것이 더 좋습니다.
