오늘은 반달곰원장이 소개해드리는 학교와 프로그램은 바로 New York University School of Law의 방문학자 프로그램인 Global Fellow Program입니다. NYU School of Law 는 1835년에 설립되었는데 뉴욕시에서 가장 오래된 로스쿨입니다. NYU Law School은 법학관련 JD, LLM, JSD 학위를 제공합니다. NYU School of Law는 맨하탄 다운타운의 Greenwich village에 위치해 있습니다.
NYU School of Law는 세계에서 가장 권위있고 가장 인기있는 로스쿨중의 하나이고 QS World University Ranking에서 세계 타 5위안에 랭크되기도 하였습니다. 그리고 US News and World Report 에서는 미국에서 랭킹 6위를 기록하기도 하였습니다. 그리고 특히 international law와 tax law에서는 1위에 랭크되어 있습니다. 이런 NYU Law School에서 전세계의 공무원들과 법조인들을 위한 방문학자 프로그램을 제공하고 있는데 바로 그것이 Global Fellow Program입니다. 이 NYU School of Law Global Fellow Program들에는 여러가지 카테고리가 있는데 아래와 같습니다.
Global Fellows Program Categories
· Global and Senior Global Research Fellows are tenured or tenure-track academics with a demonstrable background of strong legal scholarship. More senior academics (for example, faculty members tenured for ten years or more) may be designated as Senior Global Research Fellows at the discretion of the selection committee.
· Global and Senior Global Fellows from Practice & Government are government officials, judges, officials from international organizations, and lawyers in private practice who wish to take a semester or academic year away from their posts to engage in serious scholarship. More experienced officials and practitioners may be designated as Senior Global Fellows from Practice & Government at the discretion of the selection committee.
· Post-Doctoral Global Fellows are postdoctoral scholars who have attained their doctoral degrees within the past four years and who have not yet secured a tenure-track academic appointment at an institution. Post-Doctoral Global Fellows meeting these eligibility requirements may be considered for a merit-based postdoctoral stipend of US$30,000 for the academic year (or US$15,000 per academic semester), subject to tax.
· Emile Noël Fellows are postdoctoral or tenured academics with a demonstrable background of legal scholarship on the themes prioritized by the Jean Monnet Center for International and Regional Economic Law & Justice.
2017-2018년도 프로그램에 지원하기 위해서는 deadline이 있는데 바로 내일 모레인 1월 17일까지입니다. 매년 1월 셋째주 화요일이 데드라인인데 자리가 남아있으면 지원서를 더 받을 수는 있으나 원칙적으로 1월 17일이 입학지원 마감일입니다. 그럼 이런 Global Fellow Program에 지원하기 위해서는 아래와 같은 application materials이 필요합니다.
1) Detailed curriculum vitae
2) Personal statement
3) Two letters of recommendation
4) Research proposal with one page abstract
5) Statement(s) of funding
6) Proof of English language proficiency
7) Recent publication in English
위의 서류들을 설명해드리면 첫째가 영문이력서입니다. 그 다음 중요한 것은 SOP입니다. 그 에세이의 주제는 What are your intellectual and professional aspirations? 이고 500자 이내로 작성해야 합니다. 그리고 2부의 추천서가 필요한데 PDF등으로 만들어서 서명을 한 후에 보내야 합니다. 그리고 연구계획서를 작성하여야하고 본인을 스폰할 교수를 구하는 것이 중요합니다. 그리고 재증증명을 해야 하는데 회사에서 스폰받는 분들은 영문회사재정증명서가 필요하고 개인재정으로 가는 분들은 영문은행잔고증명서를 제출해야 합니다.
그리고 영어점수 IBT/IELTS를 제출하던가 어느 기관에서 영어로 공부한 증거를 제출해야 합니다. 인터뷰를 진행하지 않기에 영어점수가 없는 분들은 어려울 것입니다. 여기까지는 괜찮은데 마지막 조건이 가장 어려울 수가 있습니다. 영어로 된 출판물을 제출하여야 합니다 20페이지이내에서 영어로 작성된 출판물이 필요한데 한글로 된 것을 번역한 것은 해당되지가 않습니다.
NYU School of Law의 방문학자 프로그램인 Global Fellow Program에 지원하기가 쉬운 것은 아닙니다. 다른 부분은 어려운 것이 없으나 영어출판물을 요구하는 것이 조금 걸립니다. 그래도 모든 일은 협의에 의해서 조정할 수 있으므로 NYU를 생각하는 분들은 고랴해보시길 바라겠습니다. 같은 뉴욕 맨하탄에 있는 콜롬비아대학교에도 방문학자 프로그램이 있으나 NYU를 선호하는 분들은 NYU를 가야하겠지요. 반달곰원장에게 도움 원하시면 도와드리겠습니다.
