University of Wisconsin, Madison은 1848년에 설립된 공립 대학으로 시티를 기반으로 한 캠퍼스를 두고 있으며, 학부생 수는 3만 3천여명이 넘습니다. 이 위스콘신 매디슨 대학이 US News & World Report 2020랭킹의 Best National Universities 부문에서 42위를 차지했는데요. 오늘은 2021년 UW-Madison 대학의 가을학기 입학을 위해 지원자가 꼼꼼히 체크해야 하는 몇 가지 사항에 대해 알아보겠습니다.
현재 고등학생이거나 고등학교를 졸업한 이후로 아직 대학 수업을 수강한 적이 없는 학생들은 신입생 입학 지원을 할 수 있습니다. 대학을 다닌 적이 있고, 최소한 24학점 인정받을 수 있는 학점을 갖고 있다면, 편입학 지원이 가능합니다.
UW-Madison에 입학 지원하려면 Common Application이나 UW 시스템의 Application을 통해 진행해야 합니다.
입학 전형은 조기와 일반 전형으로 이루어지는데, UW-Madison의 Early는 Early Decision이 아닌 Early Action으로 합격한다고 꼭 이 대학에 등록해야 하는 구속성을 띄지 않습니다.

[UW-Madison SAT/ACT 성적 제출 – Optional]
2021년 봄학기에서부터 2023년 봄학기 입학에 지원하는 학생들은 ACT나 SAT 성적 제출이 Optional입니다. 입학 심사에서 성적을 제출하지 않았다고 해서 불이익을 받지 않기 때문에 전적으로 지원자가 결정해서 입학서류에 추가할지 정하면 되겠습니다.
For students applying for admission in spring 2021 through spring 2023, including scores from either the ACT or the SAT with your application is optional, and you will not be disadvantaged in our evaluation process if you choose to not include these scores for consideration in your application. You can indicate your choice regarding including test scores at the time of application.
영어가 모국어가 아닌 나라의 외국학생이라면, 공인영어 성적을 제출해야 합니다. TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo English Test 성적 중 편한 것으로 준비할 수 있습니다. 성적은 지원서에 점수를 지원자가 직접 적어내는 것으로 등록하게 되면, 원본을 제출해야 합니다.
[UW-Madison Essays]
에세이는 Common Application 혹은 대학 시스템의 Application에 따라 주제가 달라집니다. Common을 선택해서 지원 신청을 시작했다면, 다음의 Common Application 에세이 질문 중 하나를 골라 답을 해야 합니다.
1. Some students have a background, identity, interest, or talent that is so meaningful they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story.
2. The lessons we take from obstacles we encounter can be fundamental to later success. Recount a time when you faced a challenge, setback, or failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience?
3. Reflect on a time when you questioned or challenged a belief or idea. What prompted your thinking? What was the outcome?
4. Describe a problem you've solved or a problem you'd like to solve. It can be an intellectual challenge, a research query, an ethical dilemma - anything that is of personal importance, no matter the scale. Explain its significance to you and what steps you took or could be taken to identify a solution.
5. Discuss an accomplishment, event, or realization that sparked a period of personal growth and a new understanding of yourself or others.
6. Describe a topic, idea, or concept you find so engaging that it makes you lose all track of time. Why does it captivate you? What or who do you turn to when you want to learn more?
7. Share an essay on any topic of your choice. It can be one you've already written, one that responds to a different prompt, or one of your own design.

This part is all about you. Tell us about something you’ve done — academically or personally — and what you’ve learned from it. Was it a success or a challenge? Did it represent a turning point in your life? How did this particular moment in your life influence you, and how will it continue to influence you as you pursue your college education?

Tell us why you would like to attend the University of Wisconsin–Madison. In addition, please include why you are interested in studying the major(s) you have selected. If you selected undecided, please describe your areas of possible academic interest.
에세이를 작성할 때 주의할 점으로 작문을 시작하기 전에 자신의 생각을 정리하고, 아웃라인을 잡아야 합니다. 각 에세이에서 작성할 수 있는 최대한의 글자수는 650단어이지만, 300~500 단어로 계획하고 작성하는 것이 좋습니다.
에세이 주제를 확인하자마자 바로 웹페이지의 에세이 공란에 바로 작업을 하는 지원자는 없을 것입니다. 워드프로세서 소프트웨어에서 먼저 초안을 작성하고, 글을 다듬어 복사해서 올리는 방법을 활용하는 것이 오타나 에러를 방지할 수 있습니다.
추천서는 한 부로 선생님, 학교 입시담당 선생님이나 교직원 등으로부터 받으면 됩니다. 공대 지원자라면, 수학이나 과학 선생님으로부터 추천서를 받는 것이 더 좋은 방법이니 지원하는 전공을 잘 고려해서 추천서를 요청하시기 바랍니다.
UW-Madison은 메디슨 시의 멘도타 호수의 남쪽 부분을 따라 위치합니다. 신입생은 교내 기숙사에 거주할 의무는 없지만, 많은 학생들이 기숙사 생활을 하고 있습니다.
