New York University는 미국 뉴욕주의 뉴욕시 중심에 위치한 사립 명문대학으로 미국 고등학생이 가장 다니고 싶은 대학으로 인기가 높은 곳입니다. 캠퍼스는 맨하튼의 그린위치 빌리지에 자리잡고 있는 진정한 도시형 대학입니다. 도시 한가운데에 위치해 있기에 별도로 대학 캠퍼스의 울타리가 없어서 학생들은 NYU의 보라색 깃발로 학교 건물을 구분할 수 있습니다.
뉴욕대는 US News & World Report 2020 랭킹의 Best National Universities에서 30위를 차지했는데요. 230개 이상의 전공과 2,70개 이상의 과목이 제공되고 있습니다.
NYU에 신입생으로 입학하기 위해서는 온라인의 Common Application을 통해 지원을 해야 합니다. Dental Hygiene 프로그램, Second Bachelor in Nursing, Second Bachelor at the Tandon School of Engineering은 Common Application을 통해 지원할 수 없으니 해당 프로그램이나 학과의 입학 신청 안내를 별도로 확인하고, 지침에 따라야 합니다.
NYU입학 신청에 필요한 서류는 다음과 같습니다. 지원서 작성과 함께 다음의 서류를 준비 혹은 취합해야 합니다.
- Official score reports
- An audition or portfolio for specific artistic program applicants to the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development and Tisch School of the Arts. For applicants to these programs, testing is optional and a required audition or portfolio can be submitted in place of standardized testing:
- Steinhardt requires an audition or portfolio for all applicants to the Music Department with the exception of Educational Theatre, and a portfolio for those applying to Studio Art.
- Tisch requires an audition or portfolio for applicants to all programs with the exception of Interactive Media Arts.
- For programs that require an audition or portfolio we strongly recommend you submit your application one month in advance to ensure ample time to prepare your audition or portfolio.
- English language testing if you have not completed at least 3 years of study where English is the sole language of instruction at the time of application submission and English is not your native language.
- Official transcripts of all college work that you have received academic credit for.
- The Common Application Mid Year Report with updated transcript. This should show your first semester senior year grades. Have your counselor submit the report by March 1 through the Common Application.
입학 신청 마감일은 11월과 1월에 있는데 다음과 같습니다. NYU가 지원하는 대학의 1순위라면, Early Decision이 Regular Decision보다 약간 유리하지만, 합격하면, 반드시 NYU에 등록해야 하니 신중하게 어느 플랜으로 지원할지 결정해야 합니다.

NYU 대학도 올해 대학 입학 시험을 준비하는 지원자의 고충을 이해하고 배려하기 위해 유연한 시험성적 제출 정책을 내놓았습니다. 2021년 가을학기에 입학 지원하는 학생에 한해서 SAT/ACT 시험 성적 제출을 Optional로 유연하게 한다고 합니다.
NYU recognizes that the continued struggle with the Covid-19 health crisis has made it more difficult for applicants to take many kinds of standardized tests. Even though NYU has a flexible testing policy that allows students to submit alternatives to traditional submissions like SAT and ACT, in this year the flexibility of our testing policy may be insufficient to overcome impediments to testing caused by the coronavirus.
Accordingly, while the University still welcomes those applying to be members of the Class of 2025 to submit test scores in line with our policy, we will not require it. If you do not submit test scores, you will not be disadvantaged during the application review process this year. We will equally consider students who submit standardized testing, those who are unable to sit for standardized testing this year, and those who submit their scores past our normal deadlines.

너무 평범한 질문이라 다른 지원자와의 변별력을 높이기 위해 에세이 작성하기 전에 많이 생각해야 합니다. 다행인 것은 NYU는 다양한 특별함을 가지고 있기 때문에 여러 개로 나눠서 생각할 수 있다는 점입니다. 먼저, 캠퍼스는 뉴욕뿐만 아니라 아부다비, 상해에도 있고, 다양한 School 및 College로 구성되어 있고 학생이 지원하고자 하는 전공 프로그램이 있는 스쿨이나 칼리지를 자세히 살펴봐야 합니다. 하지만, 학생이 조심해야 하는 것은 이 학교는 저명하고, 어느 교수가 유명하며, 끝없는 자원을 갖고 있다는 등의 상투적인 표현을 사용하지 말라는 것입니다. 이 캠퍼스, 단과대학이나 학과를 선택하는 이유가 다른 지원자도 흔히 생각하는 것이라면, 입학사정관에게 자신을 어필할 수 있는 기회를 놓칠 수 있기에 되도록 너무 보편적인 이유는 안 적는 게 좋습니다.
