UIUC라고도 하는 University of Illinois Urbana Champaign은 1867년에 설립된 공립의 랜드 그랜트 연구 중심대학으로 일리노이주에 있는 트윈 시티인 어바나와 샴페인에 자리잡고 있는 University of Illinois 시스템의 대표 대학입니다.

UIUC는 Association of American Universities의 맴버로 카네기 고등교육기관 분류에서 R1-Doctoral Research University로 분류된 곳입니다. 2017 회계연도의 연구비는 6억 4천만불이였습니다. 캠퍼스 도서관 시스템은 미국에서 두 번째로 큰 대학 도서관을 보유하고 있는데요. 이는 하버드 대학교 다음으로 가장 큰 곳이 바로 UIUC입니다.

PEEC와 Neuroscience 프로그램은 학제간 대학원 프로그램으로 칼리지, 부서 및 정부 기관 등을 수용하는 캠퍼스에서 기초 및 응용 생태학자 사이의 상호 작용을 위한 핵심 역할을 합니다. 이 프로그램은 문과대학의 통합 생물학부에 포함되어 있으며, 아래의 기관이 협력 부서로 연관되어 있습니다.

PhD PEEC 학생은 다음의 세 가지 영역에 강점을 두게 됩니다.

-          A general area of ecology or evolution

-          A complementary general area (e.g., behavior, systematics, physiology, genetics)

-          A specific area related to the dissertation

이 프로그램의 광범위한 분야 때문에 모든 학생들에게 적용되는 고정된 과목은 없습니다. 긴밀한 감독을 제공하면서 최대한의 유연성을 주는 것이 이 프로그램의 목표입니다.

개인의 이전 교육 및 지식을 토대로 다수의 과목 및 특정 코스를 수강합니다. 과목, 실험실, 현장 경험은 생태학 및 진화 생물학에 관련된 현재의 토픽에 관한 세미나로 보충됩니다.

 

PEEC 프로그램은 프로그램과 교수진의 실험실로 직접 학생의 입학을 허가합니다. 그래서 학생은 자신의 어드바이저가 되고 실험실에 합류하고자 하는 교수가 한 명 이상 있어야 합니다. PEEC에 지원하기 전에 교수진이 나열되어 있는 웹사이트를 확인하고, 함께 연구하고자 하는 교수에게 연락해야 합니다. 이 교수는 가을에 새로운 학생을 받을지 학생에게 알려주고, 학생이 자신의 실험실과 맞는지 살펴보게 됩니다.

PEEC는 기본적으로 PhD 프로그램이지만, 이 과정에 MS 학생이 몇 있다고 합니다. MS 학위는 2년의 논문 기반의 학위 과정으로 학업 이외에도 논문 출판으로 끝나는 특정 연구 프로젝트의 조건을 갖습니다. PhD 학위 과정은 5년이 소요되며, 논문의 최종 변론과 기고가 포함되어 있습니다.

이 프로그램에 지원하기 위해서는 먼저 학사 이상의 학력이 되어야 하며, GPA가 마지막 2년의 점수가 3.0 이상이어야 합니다.

GRE를 요구하고 있으며, GRE 과목 시험은 필요하지 않습니다. 추천서, 학업 계획서 등이 필요합니다.

국제학생의 경우 영어 점수를 제출해야 하는데, TOEFL은 103~104 점으로 다소 높아 보이나 IELTS는 6.5 이상을 요구하고 있습니다.

 

지원 신청에 필요한 서류는 다음과 같습니다.

 - 온라인 지원서 (국제학생의 경우 신청비 $90)

 - 모든 학교 성적/졸업 증명서

 - 학업 계획서 1500 단어

 - 최소한 3부의 추천서

 - GRE

 - TOEFL or IELTS

 

입학지원서는 12월 1일까지 제출해야 합니다. 그리고, 입학 신청을 희망하는 학생은 자신이 함께 일하고 싶은 교수에게 이메일이라 편지를 쓸 것을 권장하고 있습니다.

PEEC에서는 여러가지의 펠로우십을 제공하는데, 학생의 학비와 보험료, 학교 서비스 비용의 면제와 급여를 지원합니다. 여러 펠러우십 중 UIUC Graduate College Dissertation Completion Fellowships의 급여 수준은 연간 $20,000 입니다. 수령 자격은 다음의 조건을 충족해야 합니다.

• Open only to currently enrolled doctoral students at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
• Eligible students will be nominated by their department or program.
• Nominees must be enrolled in a program leading to the PhD, DMA, EdD, or JSD and should have completed all requirements for the doctoral degree except the dissertation. only those students who have passed the preliminary examination by the nomination deadline and who will defend and deposit their dissertations by August 2021 are eligible for nomination.  There are no exceptions to these requirements.
• Students who have already received a dissertation completion fellowship from another campus unit or an external funder are ineligible. 
• Registration is not required at the time of nomination but is required during the award period.
