2019년 US News and World Report의 미국 대학 랭킹에서 18위를 차지한 미국 인디애나주의 노틀담 대학에 대해서 알아보겠습니다.
1842년에 설립된 University of Notre Dame은 사립 대학으로 전체 학부생 수는 8,500여명으로 시내 중심에 캠퍼스가 자리잡고 있습니다. 시카고에서 100마일 떨어진 사우스밴드에 캠퍼스가 있는데요. 신입 학부생만 반드시 캠퍼스에 살도록 되어 있지만, 그 이후에도 30개의 기숙사 중 하나에서 사는 학생들이 많습니다.
이 기숙사 홀은 학생들이 노틀담에서 소셜활동을 할 수 있는 중심지 역할을 하는데, 그 이유는 캠퍼스에서는 Greek 활동 즉 교내 사교활동을 할 수 없기 때문입니다. 노틀담의 Fighting Irish는 약 20개의 NCAA Division 1의 스포츠팀을 보유하고 있으며, 축구에 꾸준히 강한 면모를 보이는 것으로 유명합니다. 거의 학생의 절반이 최소한 한 학기는 해외 유학의 경험을 하고 있는 대학입니다.
2019년 US National Universities 랭킹에서 18위를 차지한 것 이외에 이 대학을 평가하는 지표와 숫자는 아래와 같습니다.

모든 국제학생이나 미국 학생들 성적 장학금을 받을 수 있습니다. 대부분은 장학금은 고려를 위해 별도의 신청을 할 필요는 없습니다.
SAT나 ACT 중 하나는 반드시 시험을 봐서 성적을 제출해야 하며, 영어권에서 고등학교를 나오지 않았다면, 공인 영어 성적을 제출해야 합니다. 영어 성적 제출 면제를 받으려면, SAT의 리딩과 라이팅 섹션체서 650점 이상이거나 ACT의 English나 Reading 섹션에서 26점 이상이어야 합니다.
토플은 100점 이상이 될 것을 권장하고 있습니다. 입학 전형 과정에 졸업생이나 캠퍼스 내 인터뷰는 없습니다.

노틀담의 유명한 졸업 동문 중에 전 미국 국무장관인 콘돌리자, 라이스, 토크쇼 진행자인 레지스 필빈, 명예의 전당 선수 조 몬타나 등이 있습니다. 그리고, 1993년 영화 ‘Rudy”는 지난 25년간 ESPN이 선정한 스포츠 영화 25위권 안에 든 영화로 이 영화는 노틀담 캠퍼스에서 촬영되었으며, 노틀담에서 축구를 하기 위해 많은 장애를 극복한 다니엘 루디 루티거의 실화를 바탕으로 만들어졌습니다.
