안녕하세요, 반달곰 원장입니다.
반달곰원장이 12월 20일, 21일, 22일 3일 동안 미국 중부의 테네시주의 명문 주립대학교인 University of Tennessee Knoxville UTK 을 방문하였습니다. 테네시대학교에는 녹스빌외에도 다른 몇개의 캠퍼스가 있는데 당연히 녹스빌 캠퍼스가 메인 캠퍼스입니다. 반달곰원장이 UTK 의 Undergraduate 프로그램의 director Stephanie와 assistant director Fang의 초청으로 방문을 결심한 것입니다.
아시다시피 반달곰원장은 UC Berkeley, UCLA, USC등의 서부의 대학교와 MIT, HULT, Duke, UNC Chapel Hill등의 동부대학교와 Northwestern, University of Chicago, University of Notre Dame, Emory University등을 주로 많이 컨설팅을 하였습니다. 중남부의 University of Tennessee Knoxville, University of Alabama Birmingham같은 대학교들에 대해서는 컨설팅을 하지를 않았었습니다.
테네시대학교 캠퍼스는 정말 아름답습니다.
그런데 이번에 방문한 UTK는 정말 너무나 훌륭한 주립대학교여서 지금이라도 열심히 한국 학생들에게 알려드리고 입학을 잘 할 수 있게 도와주어야겠다고 생각을 하였습니다. 특히나 MBA등 석사뿐만아니라 학사 과정이 정말 훌륭해서 좋은 학사과정으로 입학을 도와주기로 하였습니다. UTK는 비즈니스가 매우 강하고 로스쿨, 엔지니어링, 그리고 농업관련 학과들이 매우 강합니다.
이번에 반달곰원장의 딸이 수능을 보았는데 이렇게 고생해서 공부하고도 난이도에 실패한 마루타테스트 형식의 수능으로 학생들에게 신뢰를 못 주는 대한민국 교욱시스템과, 그런 점수를 가지고 서울, 그리고 서울 이외의 정말 알지도 못한 대학교 입학도 어려운 현실을 보고서 딸아이를 한국에서 대학을 보내야 하나 하는 자괴감이 들더군요.
테네시대학교 같은 명문대학교에서 꿈을 키워주세요. 학비도 경제적이고 생활비는 한국보다 훨씬 저렴한 테네시 녹스빌.
UTK같이 훌륭한 대학교에 입학을 시키면 정말 좋겠다는 생각이 계속 해서 드는데 아이비리그나 NYU같이 엄청난 학비도 아니고 한달에 몇천불씩 쓸 정도로 높은 물가도 아니어서 더욱 그런 생각이 드는지도 모르겠습니다. 이번 수능 결과 이후에 반달곰원장에게 도움을 요청하는 분들이 많은데 UTK같은 대학교라면 반달곰원장은 정말 강추를 하겠습니다. 그럼 UTK가 얼마나 훌륭한지 학부 위주의 랭킹을 먼저 살펴보겠습니다.
