이 대학은 Land grant college중의 하나로 노스캐롤라이나 농업 기술대학(North Carolina College of Agriculture and Mechanic Arts)이 이 대학의 전신입니다. MSA는 핵심 과목 및 선택 과목의 메뉴가 아닌 완전히 통합된 단일 학습과정으로 상당히 상호 작용이 요구되는 프로그램입니다. 프로그램에서 학생들은 팀별로 함께 작업하고 생산성을 높이기 위해 개인별 지도를 받습니다. 실용적인 지식의 습득과 방법과 기술을 적용할 수 있도록 디자인된 10개월의 집중 프로그램입니다. 커리큘럼은 데이터 과학자가 직면하는 진화하는 과제를 해결하기 위해 세심하게 보정되고 계속적으로 업데이트됩니다. 이 연구소 안에 교실, 팀 룸, 학습 공 및 기타 편의 시설뿐만 아니라 하루 종일 학생들과 소통할 수 있는 교수진과 직원들이 있습니다.
학생들은 업계 최고의 프로그래밍 도구를 사용합니다. 프로그램이 시작된 이후, MSA 학생들은 사실상 모든 산업 분야에 걸친 100개 이상의 스폰서의 총 134개의 프로젝트에 참여했으며, 여기에는 세계 최고 기업 및 잘 알려진 브랜드를 포함하고 있습니다.

NC State MSA 과정에 입학하기 위해서는 외국 학생의 경우 아래와 같은 지원 서류를 준비해야 합니다.
- Completed application form (personal information, academic history, etc.)
- An unofficial transcript for each college/university you have attended, regardless of degree completion (note: we only require official transcripts after an applicant is admitted and enrolls)
- A brief (1-2 pages in length) personal statement addressing how the MSA fits into your near-term and long-term professional career goals
- Your current résumé or curriculum vitae
- Official TOEFL or IELTS score report, sent directly to NC State’s Graduate School (institution code 5496) by the testing agency, unless not required (see English proficiency requirements)
- Three (3) recommendations – The application will ask you to provide contact information for three individuals who have a substantive understanding about your academic and/or professional record of accomplishment. You should not invite classmates or family members to provide a recommendation. Your listed references will receive an automated email with instructions on how to submit their letter of recommendation.
- Nonrefundable application fee of $85 – Credit card payment of the application fee is preferred, as payment by personal check causes significant delays in the application review process.
지원서와 함께 대학성적/졸업 증명서, 에세이, 이력서, 추천서 3부, 공인영어 성적이 필요하며, 신청비 $85을 온라인으로 납부하면 됩니다. 다행히 NC State의 MSA 지원 시 GRE나 GMAT 점수는 준비할 필요가 없습니다. 대신에 서류 전형에 합격한 지원자에 한해 입학 위원회의 인터뷰를 봐야 하며, 학교에 직접 가거나 아니면, 비디오 컨퍼런스 형태로 인터뷰에 참여할 수 있습니다.
2019년 6월 말에 시작하는 프로그램의 신청은 현재 받고 있으며, 다음의 스케줄에 따라 입학 절차가 진행됩니다.

2018년 입학한 학생들의 프로파일을 보면, 총 114명이 MSA 프로그램에 등록했으며, 미국 시민권자나 영주권자가 84%였습니다. 16%가 외국 학생임을 알 수 있으며, 약 17개국에서 온 학생들이 모여 클래스를 이루었고, 입학한 학생의 평균 GPA는 3.59였습니다. 직장 경력이 3년 이상인 경우는 38%, 21~58세의 학생들로 구성되어 있습니다.
