캘리포니아 주립대학교 UC San Diego는 국제 학생에게 영어 프로그램, 학점 이수 프로그램과 다양한 전문가 교육 과정을 제공하고 있는데요. 이번에 UC San Diego Extension의 International Programs에서 업데이트 뉴스를 보니 새로 생긴 과정도 있고, 프로그램이 약간 변형을 준 게 있어 그 내용에 대해서 설명드리겠습니다.
특히 UCSD의 Certificate 프로그램은 비즈니스 수업 대상자의 경력 및 난이도별로 상세하게 나뉘어져 있고, 프로그램 기간도 짧게는 1쿼터에서 4쿼터로 학생, 직장인 모두 참여하기가 편하게 구성되어 있습니다. 토픽 또한 비즈니스, 프로젝트 경영, TEFL 등 스킬을 향상시키고자 하는 전문 분야를 고를 수 있습니다. 이번에 생긴 프로그램이 비즈니스 경영 프리마스터 과정으로 Certificate 프로그램 카테고리에 있기는 하나 엄밀히 말하면, 대학원 진학 준비 과정으로 봐야할 것 같습니다.

Business Management Pre-Master’s 대상자
미국에서 고급 비즈니스 학위 과정에 지원하고 싶다면, UC San Diego Rady School of Management의 조건부 노미네이트를 제공하는 Business Management Pre-Master 트랙을 선택하는 게 유리합니다. 미국의 비즈니스 관행에 대한 폭넓은 소개를 통해 전문 지식과 기술을 익히고, 대학원 준비를 할 수 있는 기회를 제공합니다. 두 번째 커터에서 금융, 마케팅, 회계 중 하나의 영역을 선택해서 전공으로 할 수 있습니다. 강의실 경험을 보완하기 위해 120시간의 인턴쉽 과정을 프로그램과 통합시켰습니다.
BM 프리마스터 과정의 특징
- Conditional Nomination to Rady School of Management upon acceptance to the Pre-Master's track
- Develop solid business management skills with specialization in a field of your choice
- Practitioner-led instruction for foundational and advanced business, quantitative, leadership, and teamwork skills
- Complement your studies and build your professional contacts by completing a 120-hour unpaid internship at a reputable company.
- Study alongside international and American students
- After two quarters, receive a Professional Certificate in Business Management with a specialization in Finance, Marketing, Accounting, or International Business.
- Apply for Optional Practical Training after three consecutive quarters of study
- Students who continue on to Rady School of Management may receive a fellowship for the amount of $10,000 to be applied toward tuition costs at Rady.
이 과정에서 유학생끼리만 공부하는 것이 아니라 미국 현지 학생과 수업을 같이 들을 수 있으며, 이 프리마스터 과정 후 OPT를 할 수 있으며, Rady School of Management에서 학업을 계속 이어 나갈 경우 학비로 만 불 가량을 장학금으로 받을 수 있다는 것도 큰 장점입니다.
2019년 프로그램 일정
- 2쿼터 : 1월 3일 ~ 6월 14일
- 3쿼터 : 1월 3일 ~ 9월 7일
입학 조건
학생의 배경 및 자격 조건을 엄중하게 심사하며, 다음의 기본 조건을 최소한 충족해야 합니다.
- 4-year bachelor's degree
- Your official university transcripts in English indicating a strong academic history; include a grading key.
- If you have pursued graduate-level coursework or degrees, you must include those transcripts as well.
- Dated and signed letter of recommendation on university or company letterhead from a professor or supervisor attesting to your experience and ability to excel in the relevant field
- Résumé or curriculum vitae (CV)
- Essay: minimum of 500 words explaining your qualifications and motivations for taking the program.
- A spoken language phone screening may be required. This can be conducted in person if you are already in San Diego; otherwise, it will be done by phone or Skype.
프리마스터 과정이기에 학사 학위가 있는 대학 졸업자로 영문 대학 졸업/성적 증명서를 준비해야 합니다. 추천서와 CV, 에세이가 필요하며, 샌디에고에 있다면, 직접 만나 인터뷰를 보며, 그렇지 않다면, 전화나 스카이프를 통한 인터뷰가 진행됩니다.
무엇보다 영어 실력이 중요한데요. 이 BM 프리마스터 과정에 입학하기 위한 기본 조건에 공인영어 성적의 점수는 아래와 같습니다.
- TOEFL iBT: 80
- IELTS: 7.0
- PTE: 65
아이엘츠 점수로는 상당히 높은 편으로 토플이 점수 만들기에 조금은 용이해 보입니다.

BM의 두 쿼터를 성공적으로 마쳤다면, 전문 분야에서 자신의 스킬을 더 발전시키고 Advanced studies에서 수료증을 취득할 수 있습니다.

프로그램 신청 마감일
특정한 데드라인은 없지만, 자리가 차면, 자연스럽게 마감이 됩니다. 선착순 마감이니 일찍 지원하시기 바랍니다.
프로그램 스케줄
월~금요일 수업으로 간혹 토요일에도 수업이 있을 수 있습니다. 낮과 저녁 시간 코스가 있으며, 스케줄은 다양합니다.
수업 장소
UCSD Extension 캠퍼스에서 수업이 진행되거나 캠퍼스 근처의 University City Center에서 수업이 있을 수 있으니 저녁시간 수업이나 캠퍼스 밖 수업의 경우 차나 다른 교통 수단을 미리 준비하는 것이 좋습니다.
프로그램 비용
- Application Fee: $200 (nonrefundable)
- FedEx fee: $50 (optional, but recommended)
- Two-Quarter Tuition: $12,000
- Three-Quarter Tuition: $18,000
- International Student Service Fee: $760 (2 quarters), or $1,140 (3 quarters)
- UC San Diego Extension medical insurance: $1,170 (2 quarters), or $1,800 (3 quarters)
- Books/Materials: Approximately $300-$800 per quarter
