초중고 학생들은 이미 개학이 시작되어 가을학기에 들어갔고, 곧 대학생들도 일제히 가을학기에 들어가는 시기입니다. 직장인들은 꿈만 같았던 여름 휴가를 마치고, 이제 일상으로 돌아와서 일과 시름을 하고 있겠지요. 각자의 꿈과 진로를 위해 학생이든 직장인이든 지금의 자리에서 열심히 공부하고, 자신의 전문 분야를 연구하고 있을텐데요. 유학 전문가로서 더 나은 꿈과 비전을 갖고 도전해 볼 수 있는 훌륭한 프로그램을 더 많은 분에게 소개하고자 노력하고 있습니다. 오늘 소개할 학교는 미국 플로리다주 탬파에 위치한 University of South Florida로 INTO Study 그룹을 통한 대학원 패스웨이 과정에 대해서 설명해드리겠습니다.
학생 수가 42,000명으로 미국 내에서도 가장 큰 공립대학교 중에 하나이며, 이 중 140개국에서 온 학생이 7%로 국제학생 비율은 언뜻 작아 보이지만, 거의 3천명이 넘는 외국 학생이 공부하는 곳입니다. USF에 입학하는 학생들은 상당한 우등생으로2015년 가을학기에 신입으로 입학한 학생들의 결과를 보면, 평균 GPA가 4.08, SAT 평균이 1223, 평균 ACT가 28점이었습니다. 50퍼센트의 학생들이 자기 반에서 상의 20%의 성적으로 졸업했고, 58퍼센트가 Bright Future 장학금 수여자들이라고 합니다.
USF는 240개의 학부 및 대학원 과정을 제공하고 있는데, INTO를 통해 학부 과정은 물론 대학원의 석사 혹은 박사 과정 패스웨이를 밟을 수 있습니다.

USF에서 제공하는 대학원 패스웨이 과정이 상당히 다양한데요. 그 중 Muma College of Business에서 제공하는 Graduate Pathway in Business Administration (MBA)과정을 알아보겠습니다. USF의 MBA 과정으로 이끄는 패스웨이로 코스는 1학기 혹은 2학기 동안 진행이 됩니다. 1월과 8월에 개강하며, 이 패스웨이 입학 조건은 아래와 같습니다.
- 4년제 졸업 이상으로 평점이 2.5/4.0 이상
- 2년의 직장 경험 이상
- 영어 토플 65-78사이 혹은 IELTS 5.5~6.0 이면, 2학기 패스웨이 과정을 거치며, 토플 79점 혹은 IELTS 6.5 이상이면, 1학기 참여

학비는 2학기의 경우, $30,180이며, 1학기만을 참여 시 $17,360입니다. 1월 학기는 2018년 1월 2일 시작하며, 2018년 가을학기 일정은 아직 공개되지 않았지만, 올해 8월 15일에 시작한 것을 감안해서 비슷한 날짜로 유추해 볼 수 있을 것입니다.
성공적으로 패스웨이 과정을 마친 후라면, 다음 학기에 MBA 프로그램에 진학하게 되는데요. 하지만, 이런 진학에 앞서 다음의 진학 조건을 갖춰야 합니다.
- 패스웨이에서 GPA 3.25 이상
- 최소한 한 과목 이상이 A 이어야 하며, B보다 낮은 학점을 받지 말아야 합니다.
- Incomplete나 Withdraw된 과목이 없어야 합니다.
- GMAT이 530이상으로 Verbal은 20이상이어야 합니다.
- Statement of Purpose 필요
- 2부의 추천서
USF MBA에 직접 입학 시 필요한 GMAT 평균이 약 572점인 것을 감안하면, 상당히 낮은 점수로 입학이 보장되는 게 맞습니다. 학부 성적 역시 3.0~3.3으로 대학교 시절 공부를 좀 안 하셨다면, 부담스러운 학업 성적일 수 있습니다. 거기에 비즈니스 전공이 아니면, MBA이전에 16학점을 선수 과목으로 들어야 하는 어려움도 있습니다. 그러나, 패스웨이 과정을 거치면, 학부 성적 2.5에 영어와 GMAT 점수가 훨씬 낮은 편이고, 선수과목 등 부담을 좀 덜 수 있습니다.
