반달곰원장이 어제는 밴쿠버 아일랜드의 나나이모에 있는 밴쿠버 아일랜드 대학교 Vancouver Island University를 방문하였습니다. 그런데 어제 VIU를 방문하고 느낀 점은 역시 세상에는 좋은 대학교, 좋은 학교가 많고 반달곰원장이 못가본 학교는 더 많구나 하는 것이었습니다. 이렇게 좋은 대학교가 바로 밴쿠버 옆에 있었다니 그동안 이 VIU를 소갱나하고 뭐했었는지 반성이 되더군요. 특히나 MBA프로그램을 전문적으로 컨설팅한다는 반달곰원장이 VIU를 소개안하고 University Canada West MBA등을 소개했었으니 정말 반성 많이 합니다.
Vancouver Island University는 그전에 Malaspina University College이었고 그전에는 Malaspina College였었습니다. VIU는 학교이름에서 알 수 있듯이 밴쿠버 아일랜드에 있는 캐나다 공립대학교입니다. 1969년에 Malaspina College로 설립되어서 지금은 대학교로 성장하여 그 지역에 문화적, 경제적, 교육적으로 중요한 역할을 하고 있습니다. 나나이모에 메인 캠퍼스를 두고 있고 Duncan, Powell River, Parksville에 캠퍼스를 두고 있습니다.
오늘 반달곰원장은 바로 VIU의 18개월 과정인 MBA프로그램을 소개하려고 합니다. 본인이 공부하는 양에 따라서 14개월-18개월과정으로 할 수 있고 finance, marketing등의 concentration과정을 하거나 영국의 University of Hertfordshire 의 MSc International Management과정등 복수학위를 하고자 할 경우에는 2년과정으로 공부할 수가 있습니다. 기본적으로 VIU MBA학비는 32000캐나다달러이고 복수학위를 할 경우에는 37750캐나다달러로 매우 경제적입니다. 지금 캐나다달러가 850원정도이니 3천만원이 안되는 경제적인 학비입니다.
VIU MBA는 9월과 1월에 입학이 있는데 9월입학을 위해서는 3월 31일까지 입학지원을 해야 합니다. 그러나 스페이스가 여유 있으면 지속적으로 지원서를 받기에 지금도 지원이 가능합니다. 2018년 1월 입학을 위해서는 올해 6월 30일이 입학지원데드라인입니다. 그러나 역시 정원 마감될때까지 지원서를 받으므로 충분히 지원을 할 수가 있습니다. 그럼 VIU MBA지원을 위해서 무엇이 필요한지 admission requirement를 살펴보겠습니다.
General Admission Requirements:
· University bachelor’s degree from a recognized, accredited institution, from a business or non-business program;
· A minimum “B” average in the last 2 years of undergraduate degree;
· Letter of introduction: providing, in your own words, the reasons why you should be accepted into the MBA program. The letter might highlight elements of your past background that have prepared you for the MBA program and clarify your motivation for taking an MBA program and, in particular, this MBA program. The letter should be no more than one page in length and must be written by you. It is acceptable to have it translated to English but it is not acceptable to copy any part of the letter from other sources;
· Two letters of recommendation from past employers or professors must be included as part of the application;
· A resume describing education, work and volunteer experience;
· A minimum of one year of work experience is required;
· No GMAT required;
· Applications will be assessed by the MBA Admissions Committee and the best candidates will be offered spaces in the program.
· NOTE: To be considered for admission to the MBA, an applicant must have completed an undergraduate degree at the time of application, OR, if they have not yet completed an undergraduate degree, they must meet VIU's English language requirements at the time of application.
VIU English language requirement for International students:
· Completion of the VIU English Language and Culture Program or
· Applicants submitting a TOEFL or IELTS score will need to meet the following requirements: a minimum TOEFL iBT 88 with no sections under 20, or IELTS 6.5 with no band under 6.0, CAEL 70, or equivalents.
위의 입학조건중에서 핵심적인 내용만 살펴보면 GMAT을 요구하지 않는다는 것입니다. 그리고 영어조건은 IELTS 6.5 IBT 88점이나 VIU English Language and Culture Program을 완수하면 입학할 수가 있습니다. 그리고 아시다시피 캐나다에서 2년을 공부하면 3년을 postgraduate work visa를 받을 수가 있습니다. 그러므로 VIU MBA와 Hertfordshire 대학교 MSCIM을 같이 해서 2년공부를 하고 캐나다에서 취업에 도전하는 것이 좋겠습니다.
