반달곰원장의 미국의 로스쿨에서 제공하는 방문학자 프로그램들을 많이 소개해오고 있습니다. visiting scholar program이라고도 하고 visiting fellow program이라고도 부르지요. 오늘 반달곰원장이 소개해드리는 학교는 바로 미국의 명문대학교 University of Michigan Law School에서 제공하는 Michigan Grotius Research Scholar Program 입니다. 미시간대학교의 많은 전공들이 훌륭하지만 대부분은 Ross MBA가 유명할 것입니다. 그러나 미시간MBA뿐만 아니라 미시간 로스쿨도 유명합니다.
Michigan Law School Research Scholar Program으로 초청받을 수 있는 분들은 다른 학교와 비슷하게 대학교 로스쿨에서 근무하는 junior, senior 교수들, 법학전공 박사과정학생들과 박사후 과정분들, 그리고 public service careers 즉, 공무원들을 초청합니다. Michigan Law School 방문학자 프로그램은 매년 25여명을 초청하는데 그들이 방문하는 기간은 몇주에서 최대 1년까지입니다. 그러므로 우리나라 법조인들이나 법원공무원들, 공무원분들이 안식년을 이용해서 갈 수가 있습니다. 그리고 미시간대학교에서 강의를 청강하려면 각 학기시작일에 맞추어서 방문을 하는 것이 좋습니다. 그리고 학기 시작일인 1월과 9월에 시작하는 것이 집을 얻는데도 도움이 되기에 학교에서 추천을 하지만 다른 일정도 가능합니다.

WHY MICHIGAN LAW?
Our research scholars enjoy numerous benefits, such as:

The architecture of the space is beautiful, and each researcher has his or her own office or spacious individual workstation. <span style="font-size: 10pt;"> </span>
- The ability to observe classes with the permission of the professor. <span style="font-size: 10pt;"> </span>
- Invitations to participate in workshops, lectures, and other events that occur at the Law School (or on campus) on an almost daily basis. <span style="font-size: 10pt;"> </span>
- A colloquium through which Michigan research scholars who are doctoral students and post-docs from overseas universities get together with Michigan SJDs to discuss matters of intellectual interest and present work in progress. <span style="font-size: 10pt;"> </span>
- Immediate proximity to the considerable intellectual and cultural activities at the University of Michigan and in Ann Arbor. Frequently the interests of research scholars bring them in contact with faculty in other schools and departments of the University such as economics, business, natural resources, or public policy, or in the many centers that focus on significant regions of the world, such as the centers for European studies, for Japanese studies, for Chinese studies, for Russian and East European studies, or for Middle Eastern and North African studies, to name just a few.
위의 이점들을 살펴보면 다른 대학교 방문학자 프로그램들과 큰 차이점은 없습니다. 다만 요근래 방문학자를 위한 연구실 제공등이 잘 안되는데 미시간대학교 로스쿨은 여러명이 같이 연구할 수 있는 연구실을 제공한다는 것이 특이합니다. 그럼 미시간 로스쿨 방문학자를 위한 지원서류와 process가 어떻게 되는지 알아보도록 하겠습니다.
· Create a University of Michigan “Friend Guest Account”
· Online Appication
· CV;
· Description of your intended research project and its purpose (e.g. doctoral thesis, journal publication), as well as a description of how a research scholar visit will be of value;
· Two letters of reference from academics familiar with your work;
· Level of English fluency, in particular speaking and listening comprehension, and a description of your training and experience in English.
TOEFL or IELTS score and academic records may also be requested.
역시 제일 중요한 것은 영문이력서, 연구계획서, 두명의 추천인의 추천서, 그리고 영어능력을 요구하는데 토플과 아이엘츠점수를 요구될 수가 있습니다. 물론 영어학원에서 공부하고 그 어학원으로부터 영어에 문제가 없다는 확인서를 제출할 필요가 있습니다.
