어제 반달곰원장이 블룸버그비즈니스위크지에서 발표한 미국MBA 랭킹에서 놀라운 순위하나를 발견하였습니다. 바로 미국 텍사스 휴스톤에 있는 Rice University 의 Jones MBA가 탑 10안에 든 것입니다. 2015년 Businessweek지 랭킹에서 총점 80.31로 19위를 차지하였는데 올해는 총점 88.1로 노스웨스턴 캘로그MBA 바로 위인 8위에 랭크된 것입니다. 물려 11단계나 상승을 했네요. 솔직히 50위권이나 100위권에서는 순위변동이 많을 수 있으나 탑10이나 20위권에서 이렇게 커다란 상승폭을 기록한다는 것은 매우 드문일이지요!
그래서 반달곰원장이 라이스대학교 MBA를 다시한번 살펴보고 입학지원일정과 입학지원조건등을 살펴보고자 합니다. 참고로 Rice Jones MBA는 올해 US News MBA랭킹에서는 25위, Forbes랭킹에서는 39위를 차지했었습니다. 세계MBA랭킹지인 파이낸셜타임지에서는 세계랭킹 35위를 기록하였구요.
Rice Jones Graduate School of Business에는 우리가 알고 있는 2년제 Full Time MBA와 Professional MBA, EMBA, PhD in Business 그리고 Master of Accounting MAcc가 있습니다. 그 중에서 Full Time MBA를 알아보겠지만 반달곰원장이 Florida International University Professional MBA를 소개했던 것처럼 Rice Professional MBA도 주말MBA와 평일 저녁MBA를 제공하고 있는데 모두 국제학생들이 학생비자를 받고서 공부를 할 수 있는 과정입니다. 그러므로 혹시라도 낮에 자기시간을 활용하고 싶은 분들은 이런 Professional MBA에 지원하는 것도 한 방법일 것 같습니다.

학생수는 110명이고 평균 GMAT점수가 690점이고 mean은 700점입니다. 국제학생의 비율은 30%인데 Professional MBA의 경우 평균GMAT성적은 610점대였습니다. 아무래도 직장다니면서 점수만드는 것이 쉽지가 않은 것이겠지요. 그러면 이런 Rice Jones MBA를 지원하기 위한 입학지원일정은 어찌되는지 살펴보겠습니다.

1라운드지원은 지났고 2라운드 지원 마감은 1월 9일입니다. 그리고 마지막 라운드 마감은 4월 7일로 여유가 있습니다. 이시기까지 지원하기 위해서는 어떤 과정을 거쳐야 하는지 살펴보도록 하겠습니다.
Step 1: Gather Academic Records
Requirement: Unofficial transcripts from all degree-granting institutions and institutions at which you earned nine (9) or more credit hours.
Step 2: Take Standardized Tests
Requirement: Unofficial GMAT or GRE score reports; unofficial TOEFL/IELTS/PTE score reports if applicable.
Step 3: Think About Work Experience and Extracurricular Activities
Requirement: Professional resume
Step 4: Obtain Evaluations
Requirement: one professional recommendation from current direct supervisor; two recommendations if first is not from current direct supervisor
Step 5: Write Essays
Requirement: Two essays for Full-Time MBA applicants
Essay #1:
- Full-Time MBA – “Describe your short-term and long-term goals, and how the MBA will help you to achieve those goals. Include in your discussion: Why is now the appropriate time to pursue an MBA and why are you interested in obtaining a Rice MBA?” (Maximum 750 words)
Essay #2:
Applicants to the Full-Time MBA programs must also choose one essay from the following three options:
- “Describe a defining moment or event that changed your life.” (300 words)
- Tweet: “If you had to tweet something to the world for the first time about yourself, what would you tweet?” (140 characters)
- Video: “Introduce yourself to your classmates in a 90 second video.”
Optional Essay
You may use this essay to discuss anything else that you would like the Admissions Committee to know about you, or to provide information or clarification on any aspect of your application. (Maximum 750 words)

에세이질문까지 다 소개가 되었으니 이제 토플점수와 GMAT점수 만드는 일만 남았습니다. 그런데 작년과 GMAT점수를 비교해보니 점수가 상당히 많이 상승하였습니다. 점점 라이스MBA의 인기도가 높아져서 그럴까요! 이제는 GMAT을 700점은 만들어야 라이스MBA합격을 바라볼 수 있는 세상이 된 것 같습니다. IBT는 당연히 100점을 넘겨야 하구요.
