반달곰원장이 작년에 이어서 다음달에 아일랜드에 출장을 갑니다. 작년에는 랭귀지 스쿨을 위주로 방문하다보니 정작 반달곰원장이 전문적으로 컨설팅하는 아일랜드대학교 비즈니스스쿨들을 많이 방문하지를 못했습니다. 이번에는 시간이 여유가 있기에 계획을 세워서 학교방문 및 담당자들과 미팅을 하고 올 예정입니다. 이번에 가장 주목하고 있는 MBA프로그램은 바로 University College Dublin 의 Smurfit Graduate Business School입니다. 보통 UCD MBA라고 부르는데 UCD부터 조금 설명을 드리고 UCD MBA에 대해서 알아보겠습니다.
University College Dublin은 아일랜드 더블린에 있는 공립대학교인데 학생수가 32000명이나 될 정도로 아일랜드에서는 가장 큰 대학교입니다. UCD는 그 근원을 찾아가면 1854년에 설립된 오래된 대학교입니다. 그리고 대학교 랭킹에서도 전반적으로 우수한 성과를 보여왔는데 대학교 주요 랭킹과 Smurfit MBA의 주요랭킹을 살펴보면 아래와 같습니다.

As of 2015, it was ranked by the QS World University Rankings as the 154th best university in the world and the 66th best in Europe.
The Times Higher Education World University Rankings ranked UCD as 176th in the world in 2015-2016.[

The Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School of UCD is rated regularly as being among the 100 best schools for Business or Economics worldwide.

위에서 보는 것처럼 대학교 전체적인 랭킹도 상위권이고 UCD MBA도 상위 100대 MBA들 정도로 훌륭한 성과를 보여주고 있습니다. 이런 UCD MBA에 대해서 자세히 알아보도록 하겠습니다. 특히나 아일랜드에서 MBA공부를 하고 아일랜드에서 취업을 하려고 하는 한국직장인들이 많기에 관심들이 많을 것입니다.
UCD MBA는 먼저 12개월, 1년MBA라는 점입니다. 그래서 1년간 집중해서 공부하고 학위를 받을 수가 있습니다. 학기시작은 매년 8월말에 에 시작하기에 올해는 이미 지나갔고 내년 2017년도 입학을 위해서 준비를 해야 합니다. 학비는 34500유로로 지금 환율로 따지면 한화로 4300만원 정도가 됩니다. 그리고 UCD MBA는 AACSB, AMBA, EQUIS 의 인증을 모두 받은 공신력있는 MBA프로그램입니다. UCD MBA에 지원하기 위해서는 어떤 admission requirement가 필요한지 살펴보겠습니다.
- A university degree or professional qualification.
- A minimum of three years’ professional experience (this does not include summer placements, part-time or temporary work experience).
- An acceptable score on the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) – Minimum score 580 (Full-Time MBA) and 520 (Executive MBA). Candidates can alternatively submit a GRE Test Score in lieu of the GMAT exam. For equivalent scores please contact the MBA Admissions Office directly.
- An acceptable score on the IELTS exam if English isn't your first language. An average score of 7 over all components and a minimum of 6.5 in each band on the Academic Version. The exception to this rule is if you have completed your primary degree or an entire third level qualification through English, in an English speaking country*.
OR
- A minimum score of 605 in the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), with Test of Written English at 60 +. In the computer based TOEFL, a minimum score of 250 (Written English 25+) is required. A minimum score of 100 is required in the Internet based TOEFL (iTB) (written English 22+).
입학조건에서 GMAT은 오히려 580점이상이니 어려운 것은 아닙니다. 그런데 영어조건이 쉽지가 않습니다. IELTS 7.0이고 모든 밴드가 6.5이상이어야 합니다. 그리고 PBT 605점, CBT 250점, IBT 100점이상어야 영어기준을 통과할 수가 있습니다. 그외에 영문이력서 추천서 두부등은 거의 다른 MBA들과 비슷한 조건입니다. 지원서 작성시에는 에세이가 가장 중요한데 UCD MBA는 에세이 질문이 아래와 같이 네개나 됩니다.
Four essays. The 4 essay questions are as follows:
- Beyond what is outlined in your Curriculum Vitae, what will be your unique contribution to your MBA class? (Max. 300words).
- What in your opinion is UCD Smurfit Schools' responsibility to you as an MBA student and what is your responsibility to the School? (Max. 300 words).
- What makes the UCD MBA programme your first choice MBA? (Max. 300 words).
- What are your career expectations in the 3 years post MBA? (Max. 300 words).
300단어로 질문에 답하기 위해서는 정말 액기스있게 잘 써야 합니다. 하나라도 사족이 있어서는 안됩니다. 이런 입학자격조건을 갖추면 매년 8월말에 시작하는 UCD MBA에 지원하기 위해서는 입학지원을 잘 맞추어야 합니다. 아직까지 2017년도 입학지원일정은 나오지 않았습니다. 2016학년도 일정을 보면 내년도 지원을 일정을 충분히 알 수가 있을 것입니다.
• Round 1 Deadline: December 15th 2015
• Round 2 Deadline: March 15th 2016
• Round 3 Deadline: May 15th 2016
• Round 4 Deadline: July 15th 2016
즉, 올 12월부터 1라운드를 지원을 시작해서 내년도 7월 중순에 최종 지원을 마감한다는 것입니다. 반달곰원장이 이번 8월말에서 9월초에 UCD Smurfit MBA를 방문하여 담당자들과 미팅을 하면서 과연 UCD MBA에서 중요하게 생각하는 입학조건과 졸업하는 학생들에게 어떤식으로 취업을 도와주는지 현실적인 문제들을 문의하고 오겠습니다. 그래서 아일랜드이 탑MBA를 지원하려는 학생들에게 실질적인 도움을 드리도록 하겠습니다. 감사합니다.
