오늘은 시카고의 명문 사립대학교인 DePaul University의 MBA에 대해서 안내해드리겠습니다. 반달곰원장이 이번에 운좋게 DePaul University의 Loop campus를 방문하였습니다. Loop campus는 다운타운 시카고 한복판에 있는 곳으로 밀레니엄파크, 크라우드게이트, 시카고미술관, 크라운폰테인등과 인접해 있습니다. 정말 그 위치를 보고 너무나 놀랐습니다. 시카고 한복판에 Depaul MBA가 있었는데 왜 몰랏을지 할 정도로 말이지요.
드폴대학교는 서울로 치면 연세대학교같은 명문 사립대학교입니다. 그런데 우리나라 사람들이나 학생들은 잘 모릅니다. 시카고사람들은 다 알지요. Depaul이 얼마나 좋은 대학교인지 말이지요. 장수돌침대 광고 문구처럼 참 좋은데 말로 표현할수가 없네! 딱 그것일 것입니다. 이렇게 좋은 명문대학교를 자주 알려야 우리나라 직장인들이 선택을 잘 할 수가 있을 것입니다.
다운타운 시카고 한복판 Loop campus에 있는 DePaul MBA에는 다양한 MBA프로그램이 있습니다. 보통 명문대학교들이 제공하고 있는 Part Time MBA, Full Time Cohort MBA, Evening Cohort MBA, Weekend Cohort MBA 등이 있습니다. 재미있는 것은 MBA이름앞에 cohort라는 단어가 들어간 건데요, 아래를 설명드리면서 그것이 무슨 의미인지 살펴보겠습니다.
Part-Time MBA Program
The Part-time MBA provides the flexibility and convenience of taking courses at your own pace in the evenings, with some courses available on weekends or online. Students typically have at least two years of work experience. Most complete their studies in 24 months.
Full-time Cohort MBA
Offered in a traditional daytime format, the Full-time MBA Cohort program allows early career professionals and career changers to focus efficiently on their degree completion, with most students earning their diplomas in 18 months.
Evening Cohort MBA
Chicago’s only evening MBA offered in an accelerated cohort format, the Evening Cohort MBA gives experienced working professionals the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and learn with a network of others professionals by taking their entire MBA schedule together with their peers. Students who choose this program will take their elective concentration courses in leadership, strategy and change management, preparing them for senior leadership. Completion time is 18 months for most students.
Weekend Cohort MBA
Designed for the self-directed manager or individuals who need to travel frequently for work during the week, the Weekend MBA Cohort program offers a hybrid combination of online and classroom learning at DePaul’s O’Hare Campus on alternate Saturdays, with program completion in 24 months. Upon completion of core courses, students have the option to pursue the finance and operations management concentrations offered in the cohort format or may choose another concentration of interest offered by the Kellstadt Graduate School of Business.
모든 MBA들이 18개월 아니면 24개월에 마칠 수가 있습니다. Evening MBA가 보통은 졸업을 빨리 하기가 어려운데 accelerated Evening MBA라서 18개월만에 졸업할 수가 있습니다. 그리고 DePaul MBA에 입학지원하기 위해서는 GMAT이 매우 중요합니다. 그런데 Evening Cohort나 Weekend Cohort MBA의 경우 GMAT웨이버가 가능할수도 있습니다.

위와 같이 다양한 분야의 concentration을 제공하는 MBA도 드물것 같군요. DePaul MBA입학지원을 위한 영어점수는 IBT 80, IELTS 6.5 입니다. 그런데 바로 DePaul Loop campus에 English Language Academy가 있어서 조건부로 입학을 할 수가 있습니다. 다른 조건은 다 맞추었는데 영어만 기준에 못미친 경우 일정한 정도 영어공부를 하고 입학할수가 있습니다.
