오랜만에 플로리다주에 있는 방문학자 프로그램을 소개해드리겠습니다. 미국 플로리다주 탬파에 있는 Stetson University College of Law 에서 제공하는 방문학자프로그램인데 먼저 학교에 대한 설명을 먼저 드리는 것이 이해가 빠를 것 같습니다. 우리나라 사람들은 서부와 보스톤에 있는 명문대학교들만 잘 알지 다른 주의 명문학교들을 잘 모르는 경향이 있으니 설명을 드리는 것 이 맞겠지요.
Stetson University는 4개의 단과대학교를 가지고있는 비영리 사립교육기관입니다. 학부는 Deland라는 곳에 있고 이번에 소개를 드리는 로스쿨은 탬파에 위치해있습니다. College of Law에 대해서 설명을 드려야 겠는데 Stetson University College of Law는 US News and World Report 지 선정 Trial Advocacy 부문 미국에서 당당히 1위를 차지하였습니다. 그리고 Legal Writing Education에서는 전체에서 2위를 차지하였습니다.

Visiting Scholars Program
Stetson University College of Law invites U.S. and foreign law professors and scholars to apply for Stetson's Visiting Scholars Program.
Stetson will select distinguished scholars to visit its beautiful campuses in Gulfport/St. Petersburg or Tampa for a few days, weeks, or months. Participating scholars will benefit from Stetson's state-of-the-art facilities, intellectual climate, and hospitality. Stetson is an ideal place to think, develop and refine ideas, test theses, and cultivate new colleagues.
Benefits to the Visitor
- Use of office facilities and secretarial support, state-of-the-art law library, computer access, and recreational facilities
- Stipend for visitors who teach a limited-enrollment seminar during their visit
- A collegial group of teachers and scholars with whom to discuss ideas
- Tuition waiver for Stetson-sponsored continuing legal education programs
- Campuses located in tranquil beach community of Gulfport and the major metropolitan area of Tampa

Stetson University 로스쿨이 있는 플로리다 탬파지역을 지난달에 직접 방문하고 온 반달곰원장의 생각은 왜 많은 분들이 캘리포니아만 선호를 하실까 하는 생각이 들 정도로 탬파의 좋은 기후가 참 매력적으로 느껴졌었습니다. 그리고 캘리포니아의 물가에 비해 엄청나게 저렴한 탬파지역의 물가. 그리고 교육환경등을 생각한다면 쥐 캘리포니아를 고집하실 것이 아니라 적극적으로 프롤리다 탬파지역으로 방문학자 가시라고 말씀드리고 싶습니다.
Stestson University College of Law에 방문학자 가능여부를 알기위해서는 Cover letter와 CV가 필요합니다. 언제부터 언제까지 방문하고 싶고 방문학자로서 학교에 올때에는 어떠한 연구를 할 것이다라는 구체적인 연구계획을 알려주어야 합니다. 그래서 학교에서 1차 검토한 후에 초청여부를 결정하고 긍정적일 수 DS2019를 받기 위한 부가적인 작업을 진행할 것입니다. 이런 지원서 작업은 희망하는 기간에 따라서 아래와 같이 제출하면 됩니다.
