반달곰원장이 오늘 소개 해드리는 프로그램은 미국 캘리포니아 샌프란시스코에 있는 UC Hastings College of the Law 에서 제공하는 방문학자 프로그램입니다. UC Hastings 는 샌프란시스코 CIVIC Center인근에 위치해 있는데 이 학교는 1878년에 설립되어서 University of California 계열의 첫번째 법과대학교입니다. 더 넓게는 Western United States에서 설립된 첫번째 law school이기도 합니다.
바로 UC Hastings에서도 전세계 대학교나 기관으로부터 방문학자를 초빙하여 독립적인 연구를 할 수 있게 해줍니다. 물론 방문학자로서 대우를 받으며 UC Hastings College of the Law의 도서관과 자료, 그리고 관심 분야에서의 교수들과의 교류와 협력을 할 수 있도록 기회를 제공해줍니다.
그럼 UC Hastings 로 방문학자로 가기 위해서는 먼저 준비할 것이 있습니다. 아래의 서류를 준비하여 학교에 보내어 초청가능성여부를 확인하여야 합니다.
- detailed project proposal and timeline for project completion;
- a current resume or CV;
- an application; and
- proof of English proficiency if English is not your native language or if you have not graduated from an institution of higher learning where English is the language of instruction (The proof of English Language Proficiency is required to apply for a visa). We strongly prefer that applicants submit a valid TOEFL score report reflecting a minimum TOEFL score of 600 (PBT) or 100 (iBT) or an IELTS score report reflecting a minimum score of 7.0. If applicants are unable to take the TOEFL or IELTS examination, we may accept an equivalent demonstration of proficiency in English.

2016년도 봄학기 입학을 위한 지원마감은 올 10월 1일이므로 혹시라도 미국 샌프란시스코로 방문학자 프로그램을 가실려는 분들은 빨리 서두르셔야 하겠습니다. 그리고 UC Hastings 방문학자프로그램에 내야하는 비용은 학기당 5000달러입니다. 1년을 체류한다면 8000달러를 학교에 납부하여야 합니다. 그리고 한학기에 한 두과목의 청강을 할 수가 있는데 이 청강에 대해서 추가 비용이 있을수 있습니다.
그리고 올해부터 강화된 보험 요건에 따라서 UC Hastings College of the Law의 방문연구 프로그램도 아래와 같은 조건을 만족시키는 보험을 준비하여야 합니다.
The health and accidental insurance must meet or exceed following requirements:
- Medical benefits of at least U.S. $100,000 per accident or illness
- Repatriation of remains in the amount of U.S. $25,000
- Expenses associated with the medical evacuation of the exchange visitor to his or her home country in the amount of U.S. $50,000
- A deductible not to exceed U.S. $500 per accident or illness
- Covers pre-existing conditions after a reasonable waiting period
- Includes a provision for co-payment that does not exceed 25% co-pay by the Exchange Visitor
- Does not exclude benefits for perils inherent to the activities of the Exchange Visitor’s program
