시카고 미시간아트페스트(Tribue North Michigan Art Fest)

시카고의 페스티발이 주말에는 폭폭수처럼 쏟아져 나온다. 이런 행사들을 선별하는데 원칙을 정했다. 왜냐하면 너무나 많은 행사들이 있어 자칫하면 시간만 버릴수있기 때문이다.

그래서 정한 원칙

첫째, 공짜행사를 찾는다. 많은 행사들이 입장료를 받는데 그런데를 가급적으로 피한다. 말로는 donation이라고 하지만 입장료임에 츨림없다.

두번째, 가까운데를 우선으로 한다.

세번째, 좀 특이한 행사를 찾는다. 축제를 많이 다니다보니 그나물에 그밥이다. 미술품전시하고 음식팔고 밴드불러 노래부르게 하는게 어쩌면 거의다다. 특색있는 것을 찾을 필요가 있다.

 

이런 원칙으로 움직이다보니 마음이 편했다.

 

오늘 간곳은 집에서 가까운 시카고 강가 리글리빌딩 건너편, 시카고 트리뷴지 앞에서 열린 시카고 트리뷴 North 미시간 아트 페스트였다. 예술가들의 멋진 작품들도 보고 맑은 공기도 마시러 카메라들고 나섰다.

 

주최측의 홈페이를 보니 2011년에는 7월 8,8,10일에 열린다고 한다. 홈페이지의 설명을 인용하면,

Two days are not enough for this festivals, it is extended to three days, leaving plenty of time to enjoy the sights and sounds of this city art festival. Like all Howard Alan events, the 20th Anniversary Chicago Tribune North Michigan Avenue Art Festival is a juried show, which means each participating artist is hand-selected from hundreds of applicants to ensure a first-class festival with only the highest quality, original artwork.

All exhibiting artists are required to be at the festival the entire weekend, giving you the unique opportunity to meet the creators of the art on display; commission a specific piece; ask questions about techniques; learn the sources of their inspirations; and purchase fine works of art at affordable prices. All of the work on display is available for purchase, and with prices ranging from $15 earrings to $50 prints to $20,000 sculptures, there is always something for everyone.
