최근에 리차드 믹스가 SNS에 올려 화제가 된 대한항공 취객의 난동 소식을 접하면서 다시 한번 항공승무원이 하는 일이 절대 쉬운 일이 아니라는 것을 실감했습니다.이 뉴스는 한국인으로서 정말 창피한 기사였지만,이 계기로 시간,장소 불문하고, 갑질하는 일부 몰지각한 사람들이 많은 반성을 했으면 합니다.
우리나라에서 스튜어디스가 되기 위해서는 키,영어 점수,초대졸이상의 졸업 요건을 갖춰야 합니다.특정학과를 나와야 하는 기준은 없으나 직업 특성 상 영어는 매우 중요하며, 제 2 외국어를 구사하면, 아주 유리합니다. 스튜어디스는 기본적으로 예쁜 분들이 많아서 외모로 뽑는 것은 아닐까 생각이 들지만, 기본적으로는 미모보다는 인상을 중시한다고 합니다.
한국에서 승무원이 되기 위해 전문대나 4년제 대학을 갈 수도 있고,항공승무원을 위한 사설학원도 많지만, 반달곰원장은 해외 유학이 전문이니 오늘은 해외에서 승무원이 되기 위한 과정을 제공하는 학교 및 대학에 대해 설명드리려고 합니다.
미국과 캐나다에 이와 관련된 교육 기관이 있는데요.먼저 미국에 있는 학교부터 소개해보겠습니다.
Cypress College :
미국 캘리포니아주 사이프러스에 위치한 대학으로 Associated Degree 를 받을 수 있는 칼리지입니다. Flight Attendant 과정이 별도로 제공되며, 유학생은 F-1/M-1 학생비자로 수업을 듣게 됩니다.
한 학기나 두 학기로 수업을 마치면, Certificate를 받게 되고, 2년 과정을 마치면,우리나라의 준학사인 Associate Degree를 받게 됩니다.학생이 원하는 기간만큼 기간을 선택해서 들을 수 있습니다.더 상위의 학위를 원하면, 2년 졸업 후 다른 4년제 대학으로 편입을 할 수 있습니다.
이 학교는 입학 자격을 갖춘 미국 시민권자가 많아 자리가 없을 경우 F-1비자는 안 받는 경우가 있으므로 미리 입학 신청 전 확인을 할 필요가 있습니다.
지원 자격은 아래와 같습니다.
- 입학자격 : 고졸이상,IELTS 5.0이상 혹은 TOEFL 61이상
- 미국시민권자 우선 선발(F-1 Visa students will not be accepted for admission into any program when applications by qualified U.S. citizens exceed space available)
- 학비 : 악 $7,000/2학기
- 일정 : 1월, 9월 (한 학기 16주로 구성됨)
학비가 상당히 저렴한 학교입니다. 1년에 7천불로 공부할 수 있는 대학으로 유학 경비를 확실히 줄일 수 있는 부분입니다.Flight Attendant Program은 60 unit을 마치면, Associate in Science Degree를 받게 됩니다.아래는 Cypress College에서 항공승무원 프로그램의 이수 과목들입니다.

The Travel Academy :
미국 미네소타주 Eagan에 위치한 사설 기관으로 외국 학생은 M-1 학생비자로 참여 가능한 프로그램입니다.프로그램은 10주로 운영되며, 300-Hour Expanded Program이라고 불리워집니다.수업은 월~금,오전 9시 ~ 오후 3:30까지 있으며,코스에서 Flight attendant, Cruise line, Travel Agent& Geography, Airport careers 등에 대해서 배우게 됩니다.입학자격은 18세 이상으로 고졸이상이면 되며,영어시험이 있습니다.
10주의 학비와 2017년도의 학사 일정은 아래와 같습니다.

캐나다 지역에서 소개할 학교는 두 개로 하나는 BC주, 다른 학교는 온타리주에 있습니다.모두 단기 과정이지만,승무원이 되고자 하는 학생에게 도움이 되는 교육을 제공하는 곳입니다.
Canadian Tourism College :
캐나다 BC주의 Vancouver와 Surrey에 캠퍼스 위치합니다. 12주의 Flight Attendant Diploma과정으로 제공하며, 코스내용은Aircraft Safety & Critical Incident Training, Cabin Firefighting, onboard Service Procedures 등등에 관한 것을 배웁니다.입학자격은 고등학교졸업이상(GED도 가능)으로 IELTS 5.5이상 혹은 학교 자체 시험인 CTC온라인 시험을 통과하면 입학할 수 있습니다. 그리고, 사전에 어학연수를 한 학생의 경우는 ESL School의 Level 5이상이면 입학이 가능합니다.

IBT College :
캐나다 Ontario주의 토론토에 위치하는 학교입니다.과정은 8주로 운영하는 Flight Attendant 프로그램입니다.수업은 월요일부터수요일까지오후 2시에서 5시까지 하루에 3시간 진행됩니다.코스 내용은Introduction to Aviation, Safety Policies & Procedures, Aircraft Specific Information, Emergency Situations & Emergency Equipment, Job Search Training & Mock Interviews로 이루어졌으며, 고등학교 졸업 이상,그리고,사전 시험을 통해서 입학을 할 수 있습니다.
이 프로그램을 졸업한 학생들은 항공사 경력,즉 승무원이 되거나 안전 교육 담당자,매니저, 승객서비스 에이전트 등이 되었다고 합니다.
항공승무원 준비를 굳이 외국에 나가서 할 필요가 있을까 생각이 든다면,분명 언어에 자신이 있는 분일 듯 합니다.기본적으로 해외 프로그램에 입학하기 위해서는 영어를 어느 정도 해야 하지만, 공부하는 동안 영어 원어민과 의사소통하면서 영어실력도 키울 수 있으며,외항사 취업의 기회도 국내에 있는 것보다는 더 넓은 가능성을 갖고 찾아볼 수 있을 것입니다.
