반달곰원장이 요근래 들어서 캐나다의 MBA프로그램들을 소개해드리고 있습니다. 진작에 해드렸어야 했는데 반달곰원장이 미국MBA에 너무 촛점을 맞추다 보니 늦었지요. 캐나다에도 미국 탑랭킹 MBA에 버금가는 좋은 비즈니스 스쿨들이 있는데 하나 둘씩 계속해서 소개해드리고 도와드리도록 하겠습니다. 이번에는 University of Toronto Rotman MBA, McGill University의 Desautles MBA, York University Schulich MBA에 이어서 온타리오주의 킹스톤에 있는 Queen's University Smith School of Business를 소개해드리려고 합니다.
반달곰원장이 2010년도 12월 겨울에 운좋게도 킹스톤을 방문한 적이 있었습니다. 시카고 UIC MBA에서 공부할 때인데 크리스마스와 연말을 이용하여 토론토로 날라가서 메가버스를 타고 몬트리올을 간 후 오타와, 그리고 킹스톤을 방문했었지요. 그리고 바로 Queen's University를 방문하였었습니다. 그랬던 학교의 MBA 프로그램을 설명드리니 감개가 무량한데요. 참고로 킹스톤이라는 도시는 우리가 많이 먹는 thousands island 쏘스가 생긴 지역이라서 더 유명하답니다.
이 지역의 Queen's University의 Smith School of Business에는 1월부터 시작하는 Queen's MBA프로그램이 있습니다. Queen's MBA는 12개월, 1년MBA입니다. 그러나 HULT International Business School처럼 6개월을 투자하면 MBA학위와 석사학위를 할 수가 있습니다. 즉, dual degree 프로그램이 있습니다.
Queen's MBA의구성은 중요하므로 아래와 같이 설명을 드리겠습니다.

위에서 볼 수 있듯이 MBA프로그램 처엄 6개월은 Foundations라고 해서 비즈니스의 기초를 공부하고 두번째 6개월은 specialization을 선택해서 자신의 전문성을 높이도록 되어 있습니다. 그리고 앞으로 커리어 개발하려는 쪽으로 나아갈수 있도록 만들어 주지요. consulting, entrepreneurship and innovation, finance, healthcare management, marketing and sales, general management 등을 세부전공으로 선택할 수가 있습니다.
이렇게 12개월 공부하면 Queen's MBA학위를 받을 수가 있습니다. 그런데 6개월을 더 공부하면 Queen's mASTER 학위를 받을 수 있는 Expert 코스를 할 수가 있습니다. 이렇게 18개월 공부해서 받을 수 있는 학위가 바로 MBA+Master of Finance, Master of Management Analytics, JD, MSc in Healthcare Quality 입니다. 다른 캐나다대학교 MBA하고는 분명히 차별화 되는 모습입니다.
이런 Queen's MBA의 2017학년도 1월 입학을 위한 지원일정은 아래와 같습니다.

보시다시피 내년 1월 입학을 위해서는 11월 14일 마지막 라운드밖에 남아있지가 않습니다. 잘 준비해서 Queen's MBA를 준비해야 하겠습니다. 그럼 MBA지원을 위해서 무엇이 필요한지 살펴보겠습니다.
- Application Form: to be completed online
- Resume: a current resume that includes academic experience, work experience, memberships in professional associations, and volunteer and community activities.
- Official Transcripts: an official transcript from each post-secondary institution you have attended.
- GMAT or GRE Score: official test results
(Please note: If you are seeking to work in the Finance or Consulting industry post MBA, you may be required to provide your GMAT score to a prospective employer. Therefore, we highly recommend that you thoroughly prepare for and write the GMAT. ) - English Proficiency Test: official test results (if applicable)
- Cover Letter: a cover letter outlining current responsibilities and assignments, career accomplishments, reasons for applying to the Queen’s MBA and your professional and personal goals.
- Three References: Referees will be provided a link by your Application Advisor.
- Four Video Questions: Your Application Advisor will provide you with a link to the video questions. You will be asked four random questions which are designed to be answered without advanced preparation allowing the Admissions Committee to get to know you and your interests and passions much better than through a written essay.
- Personal Interview: An interview with members of the Admissions Committee, either in person or by Skype, upon completion of your application
입학조건들을 천천히 설명해드리겠습니다. 먼저 Queen's MBA는 입학지원서비는 없습니다. 그러니 편하게 지원하면 됩니다. GMAT은 600점이상을 추천합니다. 학생들의 평균 GMAT점수는 665점이고 대부분의 학생들은 580점에서 770점 사이에 분포되어 있습니다. 그리고 GRE는 315점이상을 경쟁력있는 점수로 보고 있습니다.
영어조건은 IBT 100, PBT 600, IELTS 7.0 MELAB 90, PTE 70점이상입니다. 영어의 경우 Queen's University부설어학원에서 제공하는 bridge프로그램을 통해서 웨이브를 받을 수도 있으므로 영어에 자신 없는 분들은 부설어학원에서 bridge프로그램을 공부한 후에 입학하는 방법도 있겠습니다.
직장경력을 2년이상있는 후보자를 선호하지만 강제 조건은 아닙니다. 그러므로 직장경력이 없는 후보자도 지원하실 수가 있습니다. 그리고 추천서는 3부입니다. 보통 MBA들이 2부인데 반하여 3부로 추천서받는 것이 조금 부담스러울 수가 있겠습니다. 그리고 에세이도 조금 차별화했는데 질문 4개에 대해서 비디오로 작성해서 제출해야 합니다. 이럴때는 그냥 쓰는 에세이가 더 쉬울수가 있을 것 같다는 생각이 듭니다. 아무튼 4개의 비디오 에세이를 작성해서 제출해야 합니다.
마지막으로 Queen's MBA의 학비를 안내해드리고 마무리하겠습니다. 국제학생의 경우 총 학비는 89000캐나다달러입니다. 한화로 환산하면 7600만원 정도 되는 학비입니다. 만만하지 않은 학비임에 틀림없습니다. 잘 준비하여 장학금을 받을 수 있도록 노력해야 합니다. 장학금은 GMAT점수와 인터뷰등이 많이 영향을 끼칩니다.그러므로 장학금이 필요하신 분들은 그 부분에 신경을 많이 쓰시길 바랍니다. 캐나다의 탑 MBA중의 하나인 Queen's MBA에 대해서 문의사항이 있으면 언제든지 반달곰원장에게 문의하시길 바랍니다. 24시간내에는 반드시 답을 드리도록 하겠습니다.
